Wanting to Join This Sport

Hi All,
I will be 23 this year and I have finally came to the decision of wanting to join this sport! I am a complete newbie tho. I drove a go kart once or twice but not to say professionally, so I would like some information on how to get started in this sport. I don't own a kart nor do I know anyone in this sport, so its not like I have a pit crew on standby, sponsors or anything like that, its just me alone. So yea anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.
