Question about RORO and transfer fee.

If the vehicle was bought RORO and sold some years later but the new certified copy that was issued doesn't have RORO written on it (the previous certified copy had RORO written in red), would this cause them to charge a higher price to transfer the vehicle?

Cause RORO is usually cheaper to transfer as they check it by YOM while new/knockdown they check date of registration.

So seeing as there is no indication on the new certified copy of the vehicle being RORO will they charge me by date of registration?

Thanks for the info man.
Next question.
I buying a car from a guy who only has only 1 form of ID (passport).
Will they make trouble to transfer the vehicle?
It's an oldish guy and he has a driver so he doesn't really need a license.

Eurotrash wrote:to check taxes...

over 10 years - $100
7-10 years old - $900
5-7 years old - $2000
2-5 years old - $3000
under 2 years - $4000

local vehicles - year month and date of first registration. note: it's found on the card copy on the right hand side of the name and address of the first owner.

roll on roll off - check from date of manufacture. located on the top right hand corner of the card copy. most would carry the year and month, eg. 03\11. the year is 2003 and the month of manufacture is november. this means from the first of december the tax would drop. in the case where there is no month listed, the taxes would be calculated using the first day in the next year.

knock down - these are calculated from date month and year of registration, just like the local vehicles. many people are confused by this. a knock down is known by the acronym L.A.F.U.P. written on the certified copy which stands for locally assembled, foreign used parts. these vehicles were built locally and registered for an average of 20-30k. because these vehicles were built locally, they are not considered foreign used vehicles even as every part on it is. so therefore the taxes paid are equal to a local car. so don't be too upset when someone with a higher series pays less than you.

motorbikes - simplest of all. $100, or if your bike is an over 250cc engine, $200 tax.

vat registered company vehicles - $10 transfer fee only, provided that the selling company gives a vat invoice with the following: engine and chassis number, the price of the vehicle, the amount of vat charged and the grand total, an invoice number and of course the vat registration number.

Just some update fellas in Sando. Motor and General Insurance opposite Jenny's Wok are only doing cover notes for their clients. Whatever that means. Went there early this morning and had a lot of running around. No insurance agency wanted to do it. Eventually I got through at Presidential Insurance on Cipero Street next to Yufe's. It cost $106. When I reached licensing office I was told there are cheaper places but no one could tell me exactly where. I even heard some fellas cursing as they had just came from Presidential Insurance and they did not like having to pay $106. But hey if you're in a jam and could find no where else to do it then you gotta go!

There are signs posted at licence office POS as follows
Regarding motor vehicle transfer tax , the age of the vehicle is
calculated from the date of registration in TRINIDAD and TOBAGO.

Saw that today.
Bought a 98 RORO last year and paid $100 to transfer it.
Sold that 98 RORO this year and it's going to cost a hell of a lot more ($3000) to transfer cause it's PBO...

Motor Vehicle Act says that the buyer pays the tax. Hopefully you can work that into your favour.
