be aware that the customs may mark up the value for a car when u import it yourself, they mark it up at-least 500.US sometimes because of the value you might have gotten in japan, although you have the invoice showing what u paid for the car there...

After you pay all your duties and vat and motor vehicle tax. How much then you pay to register the vehicle and get your plates? Also, how do u go about driving your car out of the port once cleared? I see you have to get a " D " plates or something so. How do u get that?

seanf3000 wrote:Dont forget to include that you actually pay 75% of the calculated MVT.

For example......

a 1.8 Litre car pays 75% of $4.00 a cc for 1800cc

$4 a cc for 1800cc is $7200

75% of $7200 is $5400

Now.........add the MVT to the landed cost of the car in the port.

Good.....

Now calculate 35% of that value(MVT+landed cost). This is the duty payable.........

Good......

Now add that to the landed cost and MVT.

Good......

Now calculate 15% to that value(MVT+landed cost+Duty). This is VAT.........

Good.......

Now add that to the Landed cost, MVT and Duty.

Good.......

now add a few hundred for registration, weighing, plates and gas.

AND....you have what you pay for your car.

Now you see why 2litre and above is a killer!!!

Is this the actual way to calculate landed cost on the road?
If it is then you can use the attached sheet to calc cost on the road

So, I was reviewing this post and decided to work out the on-the-road cost for a vehicle valued 7,400 pounds (TT$65,194.00).

Step 1 - 75% of ($4.00 per cc for 1,796cc) = TT$5,388.00
Step 2 - MVT + Landed Cost = TT$70,582.00
Step 3 - Duty = 35% of (MVT + Landed Cost) = TT$24,703.70
Step 4 - Step 2 + Step 3 = TT$95,285.70
Step 5 - 15% of Step 4 = TT$14,292.90
Step 6 - VAT = Step 4 + Step 5 = TT$109,578.60
Step 7 - Couple hundred for registration, weighing, plates, gas, etc. - TT$1,000.00

TOTAL - TT$110,578.60

Did I do it correctly? Can someone please verify?
If I was correct, it's unbelievable!!! I can purchase this car in a few month's time.
