life on the go that is- i hope they properly mark all white lines by traffic lights that have cameras. just a few inches off could trigger that red light camera

Also anticipate shorter amber lights... some states in the US altered the time between yellow and red to increase fine revenue... no sorry to catch errant drivers... see link below

Sinanan: Cocorite walkover cameras were not installed by MOWT

Works and Transport Minister, Rohan Sinanan said cameras installed along the Cocorite walkover on the Western Main Road are not the property of the Ministry.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Sinanan said that the Bill for the new Spot Speed Camera system is still before Parliament.
“…the camera being referred to in the Cocorite area are not speed enforcement cameras and was not installed there by MOWT or any of our agents. The cameras being widely circulated on social media are not traffic enforcement cameras.”
“The Bill for the introduction of Spot Speed Cameras is still engaging the Parliament. It was recently passed in the Senate and is now before the House of Representatives for further debate and passage.”
Sinanan stressed his Ministry has been transparent about the installation of any cameras for the project.
“The Ministry of Works and Transport has been very transparent with citizens regarding enforcement cameras that have been installed in some locations around the country and we have gone to great lengths by informing citizens of the other areas cameras may be installed due to high volumes of fatal accidents.”
The minister said these cameras are being used as part of a pilot project after the the Ministry undertook a review in 2016 of speed limits around the country and continues to review speed limits.
He said once the Spot Speed camera enforcement systems are introduced, a similar exercise will be done in Cocorite and other areas around the country to determine the sustainability of speed limits and the need for adjustments, “depending on in-depth analyses and studies”.
“Comparing the number of lanes on roadways is not the basis for determining speed limits. The MOWT will continue to be a responsible government agency and will make decisions that are always in the public’s interests.”
Sinanan also urged the public to ignore the ‘purveyors of hate and fake news’ and to follow the Ministry’s official media channels for updates.
Political activist and leader of the People's Empowerment Party (PEA), Phillip Edward Alexander, went live on Facebook on Monday asking about the speed limits along the Western Main Road.
According to the Ministry of Works and Transport, speed limits for private motor vehicles with seating for less than 10 passengers outside of a built-up area, is 100 kilometres per hour, and 50 kilometres per hour within a built-up area.
Following an amendment in 2017, the speed limit for certain roadways were increased as follows:
80-kilometre speed limit for private motor vehicles (except tractors):
The Audrey Jeffers Freeway
From Ana Street to 3.60 kilometre mark at Western Main Road
Diego Martin Highway
From the 0.00 kilometre mark at Western Main Road to 4.63 kilometre mark at Wendy Fitzwilliam Boulevard
Valencia Stretch
That part of the Eastern Main Road, Sangre Grande from 37.0 kilometre mark to 43.0 kilometre mark, commonly referred to as “the Valencia Stretch”
Rienzi-Kirton Highway
From Rushworth Street to Cipero Road
South Trunk Road Extension
From the 0.55 kilometre mark at start of grass median southwest of Oropouche Roundabout to 3.70 kilometre mark at end of grass median near Mon Desir - Delhi Road
Tobago
Claude Noel Highway
From Shirvan Junction to Bacolet Street, Tobago
Shirvan Road
From Claude Noel Highway to Grafton Road, Tobago
Auchenskeoch
Buccoo Bay Road from Shirvan Junction to Montgomery Road, Tobago
Speed limits were also increased along the Queen's Park Savannah and Valencia Bypass Road to 65 kilometres per hour.
Highways were increased to a 100-kilometre limit for private motor vehicles (except tractors)
a) Beetham Highway from 1.53-kilometre mark at Market Overpass (east) in the vicinity of the Central Market/ NP to 4.81-kilometre mark at Barataria Overpass.
b) Churchill Roosevelt Highway from 4.81-kilometre mark at Barataria Overpass to 34.8-kilometre mark at Antigua Road, Cumuto.
c) Uriah Butler Highway from 2.75-kilometre mark at Bamboo Village Overpass to 15.65-kilometre mark at Chaguanas Overpass.
d) Solomon Hochoy Highway from 15.65-kilometre mark at Chaguanas Main Road to 45.35-kilometre mark at Golconda Exit.
e) Solomon Hochoy Highway from 45.35-kilometre mark at Golconda Exit to 49.64-kilometre mark at Debe Exit

Wrong... if their were clear roadmarks/signages... then yes the introduction/enforcement of these policies should not be an issue... but when u have areas where their are sudden changes in speed... like where the cocorite speed cameras went up... it makes us question the motive behind this move... while the minister has stated that the cameras by cocorite are not enforceable atm... having cameras by an area where the speed shifts quickly from 80 to 50... lol he must be feel TnT full of @$$ and we can't tell what the true motive behind this system is... another example most of the red light traffic cameras are from powergen to the lighthouse.... why have so much consecutive red light cameras in an area with poor road markings... or areas that requiring tight turning or slow driving due to bad roads... but whatever keep pushing that propoganda that the system will only affect errant drivers... i hope u have couple extra 1000s stored away for when u unknowingly break the speed limit or red light cause they had no signage for the speed limit in the area or you were over the white line but couldnt tell as they didnt paint one there

I honestly don't mind all this, as long as there is signage. Don't need some smug lolo in uniform telling me that ignorance of the law is no excuse as he writing up some b.s. ticket.

so they put the camera at the beginning of the 50 kph zone at the point where it is likely most drivers still adjusting the speed from 80 to 50?

did they also put signage saying exactly where the 50 kph zone starts, as well as a warning that speed cams are ahead?

also i see there's a petition to changed the limit:

2 things:
1. The cocorite cameras are not speed cams nor do they belong to the mowt
2. The spot speed camera bill has not been approved by the house nor has it been proclaimed by the president

See excerpt below that was posted as part of the article above.

It was recently passed in the Senate and is now before the House of Representatives for further debate and passage.” - Rohan Sinanan

But the speed limits on the interchange are there for a reason though. It's how it was designed so cars won't crash into the barriers. The engineers made calculations on that.

Curepe interchange is 30 because the turns are sharp and steep.
And you can always see how the cones are missing and the barriers are scraped up and broken front lights are always to be found in the turns because people don't slow down to the calculated markings on the signs and road at that point.

As I was driving there the first time....I think the speed is good. But when you are using it every day.... you feel its too slow and you want to go faster.

The incline is 60 and the sharp turn is 40. From the Caroni Bridge there is 1km to slow from 100 to 60. At the top of the incline is merging traffic hence 60. The turn is 40 so you won't crash into the barriers. You don't even have to use brakes once from the Caroni Bridge to the top of the incline. Just a gentle squeeze to slow from 60 to 40 if you're making the turn. The overpass is designed and engineering like that by people much smarter than you.

If you want more speed go ahead. More speed kills more. Please make sure it's just you alone going.

The limits are not a problem... if people obey them... friday a guy almost side swiped my car because i was doing the limit on the eastern main road.... risong up on my bumper... going in the center... etc... he eventually passed me... but if i didnt brake hard he would have side swiped me... every single time i try to drive around limit on main roads... or side streets... sheit like that happens... and when these fools hit me and run away who left holding the bill? Hence why some of us argue that the imposition of these speed limits with fines and demerits is stupid as... often times... as a motorist... you have to go above the speed limit to avoid someone side swipping you or running you off the road
