I'm surprised I haven't seen anything on this in this forum yet.

9000rpm...200bhp...1.3L twin cam 16V...originally done in 1973
Granted by today's standards, this is prolly pretty tame, it's still a good piece of Toyota and Tom's history.

Hi Guys,
I am a newbie in trinituner and would like to contribute on this topic of 3K-R (a.k.a 137e and 150e) developed by TOM's in 1973 for Toyota.

These engines (mounted on KP47 Starlet Publica) outrun the Datsun Sunnys (dominating in 1970s) in Fuji Speedway 5th Grand Championship in Japan that gave back the glory to Toyota by winning the podium decisively in the said event with its 1st and 2nd places (717kg class) held on 24 Nov. 1973.

This world-renowned 3K-R engine is rated at over 180HP at 9500RPM, these engines were developed at a cost of USD2M for the only 20 units produced.

We have the last known complete and running 3K-R engine except for the one displayed in 'Toyota History Garage' in Odaiba, Japan. Our 3K-R was one of the actual winning engines in the said Fuji Speedway 5th Race as it has the cylinder head marking of "Y0002" (#2 cylinder head of the 20 produced).
