Postby shaneelal » March 22nd, 2012, 8:15 am

Anyone got stopped by police to participate in the road toll poll? Would you pay a road toll?

I'd agree to pay it all now. But if by year's end I still dodging potholes on the highway, I will bounce down the toll booth.

I'll pay a toll if they ease the traffic first.
attack the problem at the source and decentralize govt operations from POS.

They doing the opposite of that. With all these new Ministries formed by the PP they putting them all at Waterfront when they had a golden opportunity to place some of them further east or central.

Waterfront now has 7-8 Ministries and some state enterprises clamoring for some space there as well.

Probably they are doing a feasibility study for the construction of new roads through a Private Finance Initiative (PFI).

The capital cost of construction and maintenance costs over a fixed period (say, 20 years) come from the private sector. The investor owns the road and recoups his expenses together with a profit through charging a toll for the use of the road. At the end of the fixed period, the road is turned over to the Government for a previously agreed fee. The investor will have to maintain the road to a certain previously agreed standard while it is under his control.

PFIs are the way major roadways are being constructed in Europe and Africa. The use of the road will all depend on how much people value their time (spend 45 minutes on a rough road to get from home to MovieTowne, or pay $5.00 and spend 20 minutes on a billiard table smooth road to get from home to MovieTowne?).

toll roads generally dont work
the toll is too minimal to recoup the cost of implementing the system in the first place

Why I must pay a toll for? Tuh fix old roads and build new ones?

I'm already paying a "Road Improvement Tax" when I purchase gas and my Income taxes go into the consolidated fund from which all Road Works are to be funded.

Yet ah does be dodging pothole and riding on road dat rougher than crapaud back.

Leh dem haul dey arse.

^in Belmont too. I've seen people park their cars to create a single lane (funnel effect) then directing who stops when and asking motorist to bless them

Tolls cannot work with a population that is so small. Less than 750k people on the road... the effective toll would need to be in the region of $20.... there is no road worth that kind of money in TnT.

This government (and past governments) all fail. Kindergarten tactics and follow fashion strategy will ultimately lead to the Jamacianization of Trinidad.
