Component?

Postby fras » April 5th, 2012, 3:09 pm

One of woofers of my mb quart set damaged... Should I replace the entire component set or just the woofers?

Was thinking about replacing the woofers with some 6" Selenium or some other driver?
If I replace the woofers, can I just wire in the new woofers in place of the old ones and reuse the crossovers?

Okay I have made up my mind to replace... Which brand gives better quality for money (component/coaxial): MB quart, MTX, Rockford Fosgate or powerbass?

u have to make sure whatever new speaker u intend to use has d same coil ohmage as d 1 u want to replace , similar power handling & also similar parameters since i doubt very much selenium gonna sound similar to d original speaker

find out from d local dealer if he has replacement speakers for it & if not it might be more cost effective to replace d whole set ...

Replace both woofers with some good ones. I suggest looking for ones that are rated at the same sensitivity. Which MB Quart component set is it, BTW?

The Selenium 6" is likely a pro audio midrange, not a woofer, and likely won't make a good replacement.

The overall sound will likely change when you replace the woofers, but that's why God created EQ.

Is that a full range driver? If so, why would xover frequency be at 4500Hz?

That is the specifications of the entire set.

Where are the parameters of the midbass driver itself, minus crossover and tweeter?

What was the damage to the original woofer?
Have you considered repairing it?

Most info I've found online on your set:

Do a search for mid bass drivers on the car audio for sale forum and as Rovin said, see what's available that matches the impedance of your original woofers. Just from memory alone I know there are some Image Dynamics and Focal woofers floating around for sale.

Quality for money is a subjective term, so you shouldn’t ask that. Instead take up Rovin on his offer and visit one or two other shops and ask the guys to demo one or two woofers for you that fit your budget.

2 pairs? 1 comps and 1 coax?

or either of the above? if is either of the above the H.A.T. imagine set supposed to be around that price and has some excellent reviews.

if is 2 pairs I think there is a guy selling 2 pairs of JBL coax in the classifieds.

1200.00 for each pair?...or for both pairs?

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=430689
that might be ur best bet for the price range, even if u have to spend 1500 for 2 pairs...

its difficult to get ne thing "good quality" with 1200.00, especially components
u'll be better off getting 2 pairs of maybe medium ranged coaxials

the guy with the image says some are brand new.....
