Almera shuts down....

Postby x2bord » June 22nd, 2012, 9:56 pm

While driving the almera shuts down on deceleration sometimes. All light on dash comes on. It is easily started back sometimes with a few tumbles. Engine check light remain on then and goes off only if restarted. Generally car works smoothly, no sputter or rough idling or miss. Any ideas what might cause this? Seems electrical...wonder if it's a relay?

Check Cam and Crank sensors, if burning more fuel than usual check air flow sensor.

see if u get it scanned first...then check ur airflow meter almeras tend to crack the wires as they enter the jack itself so shake it up while the engine idlin and see if it cut off or stumble...another direction is that sometimes if the closed tps switch aint workin properly it will cause overfueling when u let go of the gas pedal leading to a stutter when u press back de pedal or the vehicle may cut off...

ok just an update, the problem was the mass air flow sensor piece required a good cleaning. Apparently oil coated the sensor and the mesh. Sprayed it out with carb spray and car is wrking gud ever since.

Just for your future reference, carb spray is not recommended as it leaves its own oily residue.

Use QD Contact Cleaner next time.

im experiencing the same problem with a sr20 turbo engine which i put into a hyundai vehicle. car works very good, except it shuts down randomly sometimes but is also easily restarted on the spot....but it shuts down more with the A/C on.

Anyone knows where I can get these sensors for the SR20 to buy?
