Civic FD1 transmission

Postby mellod » June 14th, 2015, 10:53 am

Hey guys just got a civic from japan R18a. Everything is else is great with the car just one issue.

When i first drove the car I noticed that when it is about to shift (though i think it is on timing with Lock up) the car seems to shudder a bit between 2 3 4 around 1500 to 2200 rpm on very light throttle. if i step on it or under half throttle it doesnt do it. it backs down great not issues and shifts are still smooth even with the shudder. any ideas as to why this would happen.

I havent checked my fluid level yet will do so this afternoon.

Anyone experienced this?

what you mean by shudder ? you mean its flaring ?
If by shudder you mean vibration, could be rear engine mount.

it doesnt seem to be flaring its like driving over a rumble strip or a roughly patched road. thats the feeling and it happens between 1500 - 2000 rpm and i believe it happens when transmission goes into torque converter lock up. it doesnt happen it D3 but happens in D at the same rpm range

hmm wierd, as d3 just mean you will stay in 3rd when driving on the highway.

D3 gives u from 1st - 3rd but from what i suspect doesn't allow torque converter lock up in 2nd and 3rd. but D gives u lock up in 2,3,4 & 5

So you're saying the torque converter when it's syncing with the engine speed is causing that ? Then it is slack :o

Try draining the transmission oil, it may take about 3 qts. To refill. Make sure and put back Honda genuine transmission oil. This should solve your problem. Try it
