Camber Adjustments

Hi guys,

I'm not really into suspension related issues so I thought I should ask.

Any of you guys running negative camber on your WRX's and STi's? I bought some new wheels and I know they will probably touch my fender a bit. I've already rolled the fenders and I don't mind pulling them a bit more if I have to. These rims are a bit wider than the old ones so the tires should stretch a some more and this might help with fitment.

I'm wondering if any of you guys are running small amounts of negative camber? And are there any performance, longevity and safety issues that I should take into consideration? Specifically related to our 4wd setup.

Generally any advice would be appreciated.

I'm running -2 right around....i had an issue with touching on the rear...mainly for a well balanced car for track use -2 is recommended right around...

How has the wear on your tires been? Any noticeable unevenness?

I'll probably have mileage Mack do the adjustments as well.

I started using them too, no issues.
The job you guys did on my pick up was quite good BTW. Haven't had a problem since and is level rough road right through.

I honesty haven't seen much wear...remember the car isn't s daily so it wouldn't get the kind of mileage you would expect. I believe I have done about 10,000km on these tires and they show no sign of unevenness...

My car is rarely used as well (compared to most daily driven vehicles). Good to know that the wear isn't astronomical. I just expected it to be since I grew up always hearing that negative cambering will mess up your tires quickly.

HOPEFULLY I don't have to run more than -2 deg. I might though since the WRX wagons don't have wide rear fenders.

i use milage mack as well and had by car done to stock settings apparently the wrx and sti come with a fair amount of camber

stock camber on the rear is -1.2

My dad is carrying the car tomorrow by Mileage Mack to switch the wheels and adjust the cambering.

I reckon that -2 all around should do it (hopefully). I've already rolled the fenders so I just need to prevent any touching or having the wheels poke out too much.

Before I carry it in, are there any parts I would need to purchase? Camber bolts etc? Or will the Wrx suspension allow for -2 without it? Or will Mileage Mack have bolts for sale as well?

Don't quote me but the last wrx I aligned I believe that was capable.
The front came with camber bolts stock. Its pretty much able to complete that -2.

Thanks bro,

I changed my shocks a few years ago to kyb but I assume that the oem bolts were reused.

I guess my pops will find out tomorrow when he goes down. He doesn't know much but I guess the guys at MM would advise him accordingly.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Subaru's generally have roon for that amt of camber

They seem to fit well.

Pops reports no touching yet. I think that might change with people in the back seat. I don't believe that MM made any cambering adjustments outside of the stock settings.

They said to bring it back in if it touches and they will make adjustments. My dad was very impressed with the guys at the shop and the quality of service.

Hopefully I can get some pics of it soon

I don't think so. I'm doubt he mentioned it to them. I didn't even think to remind him.

These are them on the car. I need new tires now and I would probably in time bring the front down a bit lower (or run slightly bigger tires). They run just cheap tires that I carried forward from the old wheels.

On the cambering or exhaust selection?

Hoping to purchase the exhaust today. I would argue that after Turbo selection, Exhaust is probably the most difficult to choose. So much options, tones, price etc.

Exhaust, mine is loud as hell!

Been meaning to look into a free flow resonator but don't know where to start.
There is info in the tech forum about an exhaust shop in St Madeline that does great work by appointment as well as a few others.

What do you have on it now? One of those Chinese knock offs? 3"?

I had huge problems with that when I first bought my car. The previous owner had a 3" turbo back system (Chinese eBay setup). It was annoyingly loud, I would wake the neighbor's kids when I start up on a morning.

Anyhow, I wanted to retain the 3" setup as far as I could to reduce restriction so I just changed the axle-back. I used an oem STi muffler with 2.5" piping and mated that to the 3" mid pipe (done by Farley). That served me well and the loudness and tone was just right.

As I approached 300whp I started to experience the restriction though. This is my reason for the switch (and a bit of aesthetics).

If you want quieter and have no intention to push big power in the near future then I would recommend an STi axle back as well.

I cant really say its loud till its annoying, i'd just prefer it as quiet as possible. When I sink the gas pedal I find it rather quiet, the idle and slow acceleration out of boost is loud.

Not sure of the brand as most of the name on the plate rubbed off (will ask the previous owner later). 3" piping right through and I have no intentions on increasing power output.

If you're not increasing power then go with an STi axel back. Even if you put a another resonator on that current setup, chances are it will still be loud. You typically wont get anything as quiet as OEM.

I don't mind a bit of loudness but the tone to be correct. Those cheap exhausts tend to have a droney, high pitched, raspy sound to it. Not very pleasing.

The place is St Madeline is Specialist Muffler 2001, Eston is the guy's name. He did the exhaust over on my car. 3" DP with 3" free flow exhaust (no resonator) and a 3" inlet 4" outlet oval shaped greddy jasma approved exhaust that I got from on_the_inside Deon on the fourm. The car is pretty much quiet on idle put and normal driving but when I press out it sound real nice....

I have lost count as to how many people like the exhaust sound. :lol:

Best thing to do was come to the last subaru meet and take a listen to some of the cars but time didn't allow. Heard the Jamsa's sound great too air wick.
