Ferdelance are pit-vipers so they sense heat...i remember back in the day they would strike at hunters carbide lights and extinguish it.....man would then scatter!

Their backs dont break when they miss ....that is a local myth....they are just closer....saw a couple sleeping on the track to Matelot falls one time

Its long, considering the ones I come across are usually one brick length, or less.

Cat and snake doh mix lol

Any clearer pic? Seeing the large eyes typical of the cat eyed but the pattern is very distinct and the head shape. Where de 2nr snake wrangler?

Sorry that's the only pic I could of gotten, it was moving real swift

The back of it had like diamond patterns

I took the same rake and flung it over my wall into the bushes

What i would like to know if it is poisonous so next time I see one I would know how to deal with it

That's a cat eyed night snake, not a mapepire. Nonvenomous and helpful with keeping mouse and lizard populations in check. They don't get very long either. Biggest I've ever saw was almost 3'
It easy to tell the difference, the markings are wrong, scale pattern is wrong, the head shape doesn't look suitable to the species, and most important check the tail.

A juvenile mapepire that size, the last few inches of his tail would be an off white-cream color.

think a mapepire of that length would be fatter. photo shows newborn mapepire which already are fat relative to length

Could be a cat eyed snake as well, they're fer de lance mimics. Mapepires seem to have much more definite lines and triangular markings whereas it's much more rounded on the mimic.

wasnt saying that it was a map, i just meant .. living in the area i live , there are many types of snakes, and everytime someone sees a little snake they always call it a rat snake, sometimes it is a rat snake sometimes its not...esp the mistake ppl make when dealing with venomous coral snakes because of the rhyme...which is not accurate at all......
