But yes, the record boca grande great hammerhead was estimated to be 40-50 years old. Generally, those are old female fish that produce the most young. As fish grow older so does their reproductive capacity which is why the states haven't eased up on their red snapper restrictions yet since sampling doesn't yield as many mature fish that are capable of producing 60 + million eggs per individual per year. (10 year old) Only of which 450 individuals are estimated to become juveniles susceptible to trawling.
A hammerhead that size may be capable of producing 40- 50 pups at a time.
