I see the entire world economy collapsing before the entire crypto currency market collapses.

And if it does, it will be artificial, but still, it's too strong and too decentralized.

Just my opinion

They always talk about how crypto is unsafe and can be hacked. But your money is so safe in the banks. And it's all insured and guaranteed. Look what happened to this customer recently.

Don't hold your breath though.

People were calling 'this thing' a bubble and predicting the imminent collapse since it spiked to $300 back in 2013 lol

When the value of any commodity or money is determined only by unregulated speculative intent the working class needs to be prudent.
The free enterprise systems when left to self-govern themselves invariably result in more losers than winners .
Hope all goes well for all the crypto mediums.

From what I understand it wasn't a local ICO. The team was Australian and they just had a meetup in TT.
Much like that scam called "onecoin".

TT should have an ICO though. So many services are lacking and blockchain can make an impact.
I think digital money was a must. I visited a country where you could send credit that you put on your phone to another number. The person could then go to any branch and recieve cash for that phone credit.
Electroneum is working on mobile to mobile payments as well as telcoin. And they both have big mobile phone partners.

Imagine an app registered with both bmobile and digicel, a blockchain app using coins that you can send to someone in any part of the country from your home in under a minute for a fraction of the cost charged by western union and money gram. Coins that are limited in number so they don't suffer from inflation like the TTD. Tech like this would force those money transfer companies to compete, reduce fees and stop robbing people.

word...

Last year was without a doubt the Year of Bitcoin, as exploding interest in cryptocurrency fueled a massive market runup. As if that wasn’t enough excitement, some speculators took the further leap to investing in cryptocurrency projects through a lightly regulated process called an “ICO,” or initial coin offering, in which a startup sells its own crypto token to raise money.

We here at Fortune have cast a curious but frequently skeptical eye on ICOs, which from the get-go were ripe for scams. It turns out that skepticism was well warranted: cryptocurrency news site Bitcoin.com has surveyed last year’s ICOs and found that of 902 tracked by TokenData, 142 failed before raising funding, and another 276 failed after fundraising.

That’s a 46% failure rate — but wait, there’s more. Bitcoin.com found another 113 projects that it calls “semi-failed,” because their teams have gone off the radar or their community has withered away. Add those, and the failure rate jumps to 59%. Bitcoin.com says the total funding of failed projects from 2017 was $233 million

Hey was digging around online and found this coin sale. It looks interesting and they are offering card services too when launched.
Just dropping the referral code here as if anyone decides to participate, you get additional coins free by using the referral code too. So it is a win-win.
I put a small amount but at worst case buy and dump when things go up.

UPDATE (7, March 23:55 UTC): In another update, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao announced that all irregular trades have been reversed, saying the hackers actually lost some funds as a result.

UPDATE (7, March 20:10 UTC): Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao tweeted that the irregular trades have been identified, and will be reversed. He also warned users to learn how to secure their accounts against future phishing attacks.

Binance has reassured customers that their money is still in their accounts following hours of speculation that the cryptocurrency exchange had been hacked.

"All funds are safe," Binance chief executive Changpeng Zhao tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

Rumors that Binance has been hacked spread that morning after social media users reported seeing their balances at the exchange drained, sold at market rates and converted to viacoin. However, the exchange said its platform was not breached.

All funds are safe. There were irregularities in trading activity, automatic alarms triggered. Some accounts may have been compromised by phishing from before. We are still investigating. All funds are safe.

— CZ (not giving crypto away) (@cz_binance) March 7, 2018

In its initial statement on Reddit, Binance said it was investigating these reports, announcing all withdrawals had been suspended but pushing back against claims that the platform was hacked.

"As of this moment, the only confirmed victims have registered API keys (to use with trading bots or otherwise). There is no evidence of the Binance platform being compromised," the post said. "Please remain patient and we will provide an update as quickly as possible."

Discussion on Reddit indicated that investors using trading bots may have fallen victim to stolen API keys, but it is unclear how widespread the issue was.

Viacoin became one of the few cryptocurrencies to rise on the day, jumping more than 40 percent to $3.53, according to data site CoinMarketCap. Similarly, it saw a tenfold spike in trading volume on the day, beginning at roughly the same time as the hack rumors.

Meanwhile, bitcoin has recovered from its intraday low of less than $9,500 to about $9,675 as of press time, and prices appear to have stabilized according to CoinDesk's Bitcoin Price Index (BPI).

2FA cant protect you if exchange itself is hacked. That is why it is suggested you don't keep your crypto on exchange itself.

Anyone knows of an exchange that you can set to buy at a certain USD value (as opposed to BTC/ETH value)? The account itself would have to be able to hold USD I assume unless it charges added credit card automatically.

do you know how Tether works? it's a placeholder for the US dollar, that is, 1 Tether= 1 US. You can find it on exchanges such as binance, bittrex, bitfinex (and I believe bitmex also). Using Tether, you can set buy or sell orders at US values for some coins.

Otherwise, some exchanges like Cexio allow orders (market or limit) in actual US dollars. I suspect it's the same for GDAX/Coinbase

https://www.quora.com/Does-Coinbase-GDAX-use-actual-USD-or-USDT-for-their-USD-wallets

I found that the practice exchange bitmextestnet was helpful in learning how to set orders (although the orderbook is so thin in bitmextestnet that the price fluctuations are forced/unrealistic)
