Double Clutch Tranny (DCT)

Postby NorStar2K » August 27th, 2018, 2:20 pm

Hey guys, anybody has any experience with the DCT that comes with the Hyundai Tucson?

I saw these guidance notes on the DCT, it seems a bit scary to dry and I haven't even received it yet.

Honda vezel comes with a dct, 7spd automatic on a 1.5L

total trans fluid capacity is 1.3L. yes liters

So far, it's been pretty good. the fluid is cheap enough to swap every year or maybe even every oil change.

Clean fluid is the life of the trans.

The Ioniq also has a DCT.

No issues after 10km.

Never experienced any issues with overheating even on steep hills.

WTF is that about- I often have to pull over, put AC on full then put phone in front AC vent before it works again.

I think the ioniq can get away with a dct cause it uses the electric motor to move of and then engages the transmission after...I could be wrong here... But if that is the case the clutch wear wouldn't be bad

You not suppose to roll forward on the brake. Is either you mashing brakes or you mashing gas. So in traffic you hadda wait for a distance to clear in front of you, let go of brakes and mash gas. If you reversing as well (i live on a mainroad so i does have to reverse out into traffic) by the time a spot clear up to come out, the vehicle does take a 2 seconds to get power or for the transmission to switch or whatever.....you can't roll out onto the road by easing off the brake. You have to mash gas to get any type of power.

:| But people have to remember that a DCT is an automated manual, not a conventional automatic. As such you have to adopt some of the practices of a conventional manual transmission vehicle when driving a DCT vehicle if you want to reduce wear and tear on the transmission.

I don't understand what this fuss is about. If you don't want to deal with the idiosyncrasies of a DCT, then go buy a torque converter automatic vehicle.

nun wrong with dct
The overheating thing is no different to if you driving a 'proper' manual....if you on a hill and using throttle to hold position, you forcing the DCT to ride clutch, which will overheat the fluid / bun the clutches if dry DCT
Ford abandoned the DCT on the Focus because americans didn't want to 'adapt their driving habits' for what's for all intents and purposes an automatic car...
IMO DCTs are a gimmick on daily drivers and econoboxes....just slap een a 8 speed slushhbox and keep life simple

depends on the car, I guess....I've driven DCTs were you can crawl in traffic by easing off the brake
With the focus, I get around the judder in traffic by leaving it in 1st in manual mode....most times in traffic it will try to shift to 2nd if in auto mode, and getting back on the brake as it's trying to do that just confuses it ....just ease off brake and inch forward in 1st and life is good. Of course it's better if you wait for a gap so the clutch releases completely before having to brake again

Wait for gap in traffic...

Man behind blowing horn because he think you blind or playing on your phone, meanwhile, 3 people pull into said gap while you waiting on your DCT.
