Soon to be passed on to some unsuspecting buyer.

Liscense officers should wake up and get involved and mark these cars as flood damaged and put rebuilt on the certified copy after reinspection

Dumba ss ,these are being done for the owners. You thought people going to throw away their cars because they are flooded?

Smart ass... Did the owners tell you they will not sell and sign contract to say that before you repair it to keep yourself from being liable in the future.

Was sticker saying flood damaged placed on the car after repairs where done to identify it with notes to expect electrical gremlins and mechanical nosies and early body rust. That way that if they sell it would be for less.

I wouldn’t want to keep a highly computerized but flooded out car for much longer than I have to. Especially if I found out that my Insurance surely not going to cover it

Well tell everybody whose cars get water to throw them away. When it's cleaned properly, and electrical components cleaned/ replaced as necessary, what's the problem. People who are insured third party, or who don't have money to replace, what do they do?

Lol if they had plans to throw it away they won’t be coming by you now would they... and like I said.

Who stopping these folks who used you to save their cars from selling it full price to an unsuspecting buyer after it’s repaired?

Well this is 2018.....and any buyer needs to be smart enough to ask the questions that are relevant to them.

If done properly, there's no problem after. The electronic parts like ECUs are mainly sealed, the ones that are not are inspected for water intrusion and changed.

What’s to stop owner from lying to potential buyer? Fireworks is right. Nothing is wrong with a system to mark cars as flood damaged. Also cars may work great in the short term but issues related to flood damage can crop up later. Not every owner will sell unscrupulously but that isn’t the point.

Same thing that stops the owner lying about anything else.
The onus is on the buyer to be aware and suspect of being taken for a ride.

pretty much normal business

Hence why the onus should be removed from the owner. Nothing wrong with a system in place to mark vehicles as flood damaged or having been in a previous accident.

He also mentioned that they wouldn't want things that shouldn't be coming in, to come in alongside the actual donations. Has to be pathogens or biological weapons or something because I can't see him being that concerned about weapons, drugs or other contraband, given the consistent and blatant porosity of our borders, right?

It's easy to talk if one hasn't experienced the situation. If I'm seeing rising flood waters and I'm unable to relocate to higher ground, I'll disconnect my battery pole to prevent any shorting within the electrical system of the vehicle. Then, as rspann said, thorough cleaning and drying of all the components before reintroducing an electrical current, coupled with proper steam cleaning and sanitizing and you should be good. I understand your point, but if I made you an offer of $100k for your $350k Hilux, because I knew it got flooded, would you let it go for that price??

ask to see the certified copy and see the address of the current owner

None of us would want to purchase a flooded car unknowingly. That’s the bottom line. Sellers are often dishonest about this and other issues. After a thorough cleaning are there any tell tale signs from experience ?

Depends on the level of flooding.

A couple inches that only reach the mat is nothing compared with complete immersion. This means that there are different levels/quantity factors to grade a flood impacted vehicle.

With reference to the topic the cleaning and reinstatement work done is admirable.
The discussion about the viability of vehicles which have been subjected to flood waters is subject to many variables and its apparent that there is no easy answer.
We probably just have to rely on the 'buyer beware' principle which applies anytime you go to purchase.
I do remember in times past, dealers with brand new vehicles being subjected to floods and don't recall any special declarations when the vehicles were being sold.

I was actually wondering about new cars because they are generally stored in low lying open areas with poor drainage...anyone notice any flooding at any of these lots?
