Junior Sammy sues EMBD for $114,345,102.72

ONE of Trinidad and Tobago’s largest contractors—Junior Sammy Contractors Ltd—is suing State company Estate Management and Business Development (EMBD) for $114,345,102.72.

Of that sum, Sammy claims that $82,804,219.19 has been owed to him since 2015 for work completed on the Caroni Savannah Residential Development Phase 2 Project, while $31,540,882.53 amounts to interest or unpaid sums as at December 19, 2018.

EMBD’s board minutes of January 30, 2015 show that the decision to award Sammy the contract for the Caroni Savannah Road Residential Development Phase B came after he bid the lowest of four contractors—Sammy at $231,422,824.53; Namalco at $242,788,746; Motilal Ramhit and Sons at $289,881,389.67; and TN Ramnath & Company at $292,112,511.41.

Set the bid to be break even or a small loss leader, knowing the change orders coming. Then when you get the wuk and the change orders come through, hit their ass for 6 with cost overruns.

So EMBD suing virtually all the other big name contractors for bid-rigging while Sammy suing EMBD for $$$ owed... and does EMBD have the endurance to deal with both?

Only lawyers winning here with taxpayers money.
