Hopefully the borough councils used the last few dry months to clean box/storm drains and dredge the river banks.

Now that the rains seem to be coming, it will make the job 100x harder.

Today the regional corporation is pouring concrete for my bridge and some pavement they demolished last week. Rain hasn't fallen in months and falls today. I hope they finish their pour because I been parking all over the place for the past week.

Event promoter Rishi Kanick said "Drags still on and Racing should start by 1:00PM with just some minor changes in parking system. Bring yuh cooler and come while we wait to see a 7 seconds pass hopefully today !!!
Just remember the track compound and team can get the track ready in less than an hour. So please forward this to everyone."

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Subject: Declaration of the Start of the 2016 Rainy Season for Trinidad and Tobago
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is officially declaring the start of the 2016 Rainy Season following an uncharacteristically early influence from the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) yesterday 01 May, 2016. Once the initial episode of rainfall activity is triggered by the ITCZ or a Tropical Wave, it signals the start of the country’s rainy season since these features will be the mainstay for the next five (5) months in yielding rainfall.

Based on a careful re-assessment of the weather event which occurred yesterday, it is now confirmed that a Southern Hemisphere polar surge positively modulated the ITCZ over Trinidad and Tobago. This moist, unstable environment along with significantly enhanced upper level conditions produced the much welcomed early season rainfall. Over the 30-hour period beginning at 2:00 am (Sunday 01st May 2016), the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service recorded 77.6 millimeters of rainfall at Piarco, Trinidad with higher rainfall accumulations occurring in other localities.

Preliminary analysis indicates that for June to December most of Trinidad and Tobago is likely to be wetter than usual.
At present, the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone is not firmly established over Trinidad and Tobago, and has already started retrograding south of our islands to its climatological position. Consequently, there may be a reprieve in rainfall activity over the next few weeks following this episode. The stay, however, will be short lived especially with the expected start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season on 01st June 2016. Preliminarily, the Atlantic Basin Seasonal Hurricane Forecast for 2016 is likely to be average, with the expected formation of 12 named storms, 5 hurricanes and 2 major hurricane (Categories 3 and above). Historically, the averages for named storms, hurricanes and major hurricanes are 12, 7 and 2 respectively. However, it should be noted that for any country all it takes is one tropical cyclone making landfall for that country to experience an active hurricane season.

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service wishes to reassure the national community, that in keeping with our mandate, we continue to closely monitor weather conditions around Trinidad and Tobago and will continue to advise the general public in a timely manner, about impending adverse weather conditions which are likely to affect our islands.
The public, relevant agencies and ministries are advised to adopt measures to mitigate the potential impacts of the Rainy Season. Visit us at: http://www.metoffice.gov.tt/ or our facebook page for the latest seasonal outlook, as well as daily weather updates at 6 am, 10 am, 3 pm, and 6 pm.

The 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins today.

The 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season is a current event in the annual tropical cyclone season in the northern hemisphere. The season officially begins on June 1, 2016 and ends on November 30, 2016.

NOAA's Climate Prediction Center outlook for the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season has been released. It will most likely be a near-normal season, but forecast uncertainty in the climate signals that influence the formation of Atlantic storms make predicting this season particularly difficult.

NOAA predicts a 70 percent likelihood of 10 to 16 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 4 to 8 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 1 to 4 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of 111 mph or higher).
While a near-normal season is most likely with a 45 percent chance, there is also a 30 percent chance of an above-normal season and a 25 percent chance of a below-normal season.
Included in today’s outlook is Hurricane Alex, a pre-season storm that formed over the far eastern Atlantic in January.

In addition, El Niño is dissipating and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is forecasting a 70 percent chance that La Niña — which favors more hurricane activity —will be present during the peak months of hurricane season, August through October. However, current model predictions show uncertainty as to how strong La Niña and its impacts will be.

Remember, the outlook cannot tell you if or where the storms will make landfall and what the impacts would be. You should prepare the same, regardless of the seasonal forecast numbers. It only takes one storm hitting you to make it a bad year.
