TTASA 2018 AGM: Taking Motorsports Forward

TTASA 2018 AGM: Taking Motorsports Forward

Last night the Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Sports Association (TTASA) held its Annual General Meeting where elections were held to vote-in the Executive Committee for the next 2 years.

A quieter than usual AGM as compared to past TTASA elections, only paid financial members were allowed entry to place their votes for the nominees that were announced at the last monthly meeting in June, just prior to the big CMRC event.

The posts of President and Vice President had no other nominees and so were won by the incumbent officers, Fyzool Madan and Jameer Ali respectively. The post of Treasurer will also go to the incumbent Ruddy Beekee as he received more votes than his contenders. The post of club Secretary also went uncontested and the lone nominee Navin Seedath will take up his new office from the outgoing Venosh Sagewan Maharaj. Competition Chairman was another uncontested seat and will go to Aaron Achan. For those wondering, Nizam Mohammed retired as Competition Chairman in June 2018. Rae Smith, whose voice is well-known commentating at most TTASA events, is the new Members Representative as is also Ryan Peyrau.

The new Executive had this to say on their new appointments:

The Executive Management at TTASA would like to thank the Board of Trustees and the financial members in exercising their right to vote at the TTASA AGM Elections held on the 11th July, 2018 at the Chaguanas Borough Corporation.

Individually elected executive members have extraordinary and proven performances in business. Combined, our team has an immense passion for the sport with a concern for the future of racing.

Management would like to ensure that the events held at the Frankie Boodram Wallerfield International Raceway are carried out in a manner which secures and enhances the safety of participants, officials, spectators and the public. Guided together with the Ministry of Sports and the FIA regulations in relation to the varying types of motorsports, we are confident that this will allow the sport to be competitive and fair.

Each elected executive member plays a crucial role in the management of this organization, including racer and spectator engagement, track safety and compliances necessary for the sport. TTASA welcomes all support in our vision in taking motorsports forward.

Not wasting any time, the new Management Committee began an exercise of rebranding TTASA, below is a draft of the proposed new logo and tagline.

Vice President Jameer Ali said in an interview over the phone TTASA has also acquired a “Jaws of Life” tool that could assist in quickly removing a driver from a wreck. This device was donated to TTASA through the kind sponsorship of IRP Fire & Safety Ltd. with the shared goal of keeping Wallerfield International Raceway a safe place to race. Ali added that in October 2018 a team will be brought in to give International training and certification to key safety personnel of the club.

In keeping with his improved PR agenda, Secretary of TTASA Navin Seedath stated that there are discussions on updated TTASA social media profiles, a fully functional website, and mailing lists all for the benefit of members, competitors, sponsors and spectators. We look forward to what’s in store with this new team!
