Update on TTASA’s use of Wallerfield

The Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Sports Association (TTASA) the NGB / ASN for Motorsports in Trinidad and Tobago wishes to inform the general public that a letter from Evolving Tecknologies and Enterprise Development Company Limited (eTecK) was sent to us stating that they were unable to renew our six (6) months license to use the Wallerfield premises that had expired on 20th August, 2018.

TTASA immediately requested a meeting with the Honorable Ms. Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs. The Honorable Minister accepted our request and after attentively listening to our concerns, she assured us that an expedited letter of support would be sent to the Minister of Trade and Investment for intervention on this matter. The Wallerfield premises is managed by eTeck and falls under the Ministry of Trade and Investment. The Minister of Trade and Investment, the Honorable Mrs. Paula Gopee-Scoon has also communicated her willingness to work towards a reasonable solution.

From what we are learning, this issue may have arisen due to government’s plan to develop the Wallerfield property. However, we feel encouraged that both Honorable Ministers are considering our progress at the Frankie Boodram Wallerfield International Raceway (FBWIR) and are truly committed to resolving this matter for us. We have expressed our dream of acquiring a permanent home for motorsports and our willingness to discuss the future of our beloved sport in Trinidad and Tobago. For now, we assure you all that this management committee is working tirelessly and doing our best to retain the FBWIR facility and have our license to use the premises renewed.

We also wish to make mention of a video being circulated on social media that states we were evicted from Wallerfield. TTASA did not contribute to this video and we remain supportive of our Honorable Ministers in this matter. This matter was addressed at the TTASA’s membership monthly meeting this week where the facts of the lease issue were brought up. Many members and well-wishers are now expressing frustration and anger because we are unable to access the facility – but we kindly ask for your patience and good wishes for a
favorable outcome.

Any new development in this matter will be shared with you in a timely manner.
