TTRC Rally Finale 2016

TTRC Rally Finale 2016

Stuart Johnson & Lee Quensel won the 2016 TTRC Championship in style as they where victorious at the ‘Rally Finale’ held at Bronte and the spectator super special at Mosport in Caroni on Saturday.

The last event for the year was set up to be an epic one as 3 teams all had a chance of taking home the title.

6 stages would take place at Bronte with 3 more under the lights at Mosport, teams would have to start the 1st run in Caroni to be determined event finishers.

With the event start delayed by the late arrival of the Ambulances the 6 stages run at Bronte would be in one direction instead of 3 each way.

James Betts & Sean Abed set the early pace winning the first 3 stages, but once again the cruel gremlins that haunted them for the past few events struck again, first clutch failure followed by a loose turbo hose and rounded out with a puncture saw the team fall down to 3rd position overall.

2nd spot went to the team of Ryan Pinheiro and Ross Vieira, this team has had a fantastic year and finish the championship as runners up and Group A winners!

The days winners would also be the championship winners…Stuart Johnson & Lee Quensel have fought tooth and nail with the faster Group A cars in the very well prepared and maintained Subaru Impreza n12 Group N car over the past few seasons, they even famously beat a Ford Focus WC at Rally Trinidad 2014..no one deserves the trophy more than the team!

In the 2wd class, who else?!?!.. the ever consistent and impressive Donald Gopaul & Randy Mohammed won all 6 stages for the day and we await the results to see if it was good enough to be the overall 2wd winners for 2016.

Winston Medford & Graveney Dindial set consistent times over the day to claim second spot in the 2wd category.

3rd went to Ishmael Khan & Justin Soogrim, this duo had a big roll at the last event and somehow managed to repair the Toyota Starlet in time, true testament to what it takes to Rally!

That’s a wrap for the 2016 Trinidad & Tobago Rally Club Season,it’s been nothing short of challenging due to the economy and availability of stages, but the club, competitors and every else with vested interest once again overcame all hurdles to have a great championship!
