A first look at the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT at CARMAX

A first look at the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT at CARMAX

There are few all-electric vehicles today that offer a balance between performance and range like the Ford Mustang Mach-E. CARMAX offered us an up-close look at this EV coupe in GT trim at the ANSA Motors Ford Trinidad showroom and it is very impressive to say the least.

While this quick and agile SUV-looking Mustang shares little mechanically with its namesake icon, the Ford Mustang, it is quite a looker in its own right with sleeker sweeping body lines, sporty wheels and massive brake callipers letting you know it too means business. And the Mach-E can do it while being quietly refined with phenomenally better mileage.

On paper, the Mach-E can travel for over 480km on a single charge which is more than enough while driving around Trinidad. The GT electric motors push out 480 horsepower and up to 634 pound-feet of torque with a standard range battery and eAWD*. and 0-60 mph in just 5.2 seconds. Despite its sporty performance and appearance, the GT trim will still be pleasant to drive around town and on bumpy roads thanks to a suspension system that does an excellent job at absorbing bumps and a cabin that isolates road noise remarkably well.

On the outside the faux grill with the iconic Mustang stallion lets you know upfront that this is a performance-oriented EV. Door handles are replaced by touch buttons on each door and an innovative touch key code on the driver’s side B pillar. One button touch and the door opens out automatically.

After getting in, the futuristic journey continues on the interior. The most noticeable feature is the huge portrait-oriented touch screen with a single control wheel coming up from the middle of the dashboard with controls for in-car entertainment, navigation and just about every function the EV has to offer. The instrument panel is also a LED screen which animates in unison with the large touch panel.

The front seats are bolstered adding to the sporty feel and the back seats are quite roomy despite their appearance and low sweeping rear roofline. There is also ample trunk space and a “frunk” for even more storage under the bonnet. This GT trim has futuristic carbon, brushed metal and fabric accents on the interior and classy branding for the impressive Bang & Olufsen sound system.

If you’re looking for a performance EV, the Ford Mustang Mach-E delivers and this one is available right now from CARMAX, ready to deliver.
