All New 2020 Land Rover Defender 110 from ANSA Motors

Land Rover Trinidad & Tobago gave us an opportunity to have a first look at their latest offering, the much anticipated 2020 Land Rover Defender 110  at their Jaguar Land Rover Showroom on Melbourne St, Port of Spain.

This is the Defender SE with an Explorer package, while the higher spec HSE will be landing soon. Don’t think the SE is any compromise though. At 300 horses under the hood and all the bells and whistles, this has quite a feature set.

On the exterior, mounted on the white contrast roof is the Expedition Roof Rack with a load capacity of up to 132kg. Coming down the passenger-side A pillar is a raised air intake which is handy when wading through water and in very dusty conditions to prevent these from getting into the engine. The headlights and tail lights are truly distinct, the rear reminiscent of the previous Defender. The Explorer pack also comes with an exterior side-mounted gear carrier on the outside right-side window, between the C and D pillars. This exterior cabinet has a 24 litre capacity and would be great for wet swimsuits, boots etc. There is an option to add in a water sprayer rinse hose, great for family outings to the beach or trails. This pack also includes matte-black wheel-arch extenders which add to the beefy appearance of the vehicle while providing some additional protection for the painted panels. The spare wheel is mounted on the soft-close tailgate. The included air-suspension can lift the vehicle a further 900mm from the ground to help traverse rough terrain and gives the Defender a wade depth of up to 3 feet. That should make easy work of any street or flash flooding we’ve been experiencing in T&T lately and get you home safely.

The interior is as luxurious as it is functional. Exposed structural surfaces and powder coated accents make the cabin uncompromisingly tough and built to handle daily use even in harsh environments. There is storage everywhere. The more we looked around the interior, the more storage compartments, hooks, cup holders, pockets, flaps, straps and cubby holes we found. Up front, in the business section, the steering wheel is utilitarian, yet has all the buttons and switches expected in a luxury vehicle. The Pivi Pro™ Infotainment system features a 10-inch capacitive touch glass screen and controls everything from your music, smartphone and Google maps. The 2020 Defender is the first vehicle in the Land Rover / Range Rover line-up to feature this new Pivi Pro system. Also included in this package is a Smart Mirror that quickly lets the driver switch from a mirror to rear view camera with the push of a button. The 3D surround camera is even more impressive, seeing all around the vehicle, giving a realistic overhead view when reversing or navigating tight spaces. There’s even a ground-clearance view camera as well that lets you see under the vehicle from inside the cabin.

While we can’t give you the price of this particular model (this unit was already sold at the time of shooting), we can say it fits right between the highest spec Discovery Sport and  the highest spec Velar, the latter also at 300hp. The Defender is roomier than both. The 2020 Defender comes with a 3 year / 100,000km warranty with a 5 year warranty on the body and an option to add an extended warranty at the time of purchase. Financing and insurance packages are available through ANSA Merchant Bank.

Jaguar Land Rover Trinidad expects the 2020 Land Rover Defender 90 to also be available soon, so stay tuned for our report on that!
