Solodex Tobago 2010

Solodex Tobago 2010

‘Bagodex or Tobago Solodex was last held in 2008. The event brought all of the dexterity/defensive driving competition to the laid back landscape of our sister isle Tobago, with great success and a tremendous first showing from the Trinidadian competition. Having skipped 2009, ‘Bagodex 2010 was set to let Tobago’s best answer the call.

This 5th Solodex championship event of the year, the ever expanding classes of racers showed up eager to out-drive each other in order to win the valuable 100 points that could secure them the Class title or catapult them to be a championship contender. This occasion was also one of the best-supported events for the 2010, with some 40 plus competitors stepping up to the starting line to have their shot at victory. The adrenaline was pumping as one by one each driver took on the tightly wound course hoping to get the better of their closest competitor.

With the rainy season in full swing, the heavens decided to smile on Sunday July 18, and bless the fourth Solodex event of the year with a good dose of sunshine. Twenty one competitors came out to take on the Reyos Seebaran designed course, which turned out to be one of the faster courses in recent memory. With everything ranging from a stock Honda Civic sedan to Jody Ali’s monstrous Time Attack Subaru Impreza STi, there was no shortage of action.

Solodex BYCC

Solodex BYCC

This was definitely one of the least attended BYCC events in years; given the world cup matches, Montreal F1 and Le Mans 24Hrs all this weekend it was not too surprising either.

It definitely was not the quietest BYCC though! The few drivers that took part got in ALOT of seat time as there was no line up to get on the track. Added to the “anti-lag” on Pyke’s Vauxhall “Toco Special” Viva, was also the MONSTER sound coming from the engine, blowoff and drivetrain of Jody’s 666 widebody Subaru Impreza.

There’s an old saying that goes ‘some days you’re the dog, some days you’re the hydrant’. That was how many competitors must have felt on May 16, when Creative Auto Recreational Sports (CARS) had their third Solodex championship event for 2010.
A deceptively simple course was presented on the day, but with quite a few DNFs (did not finish correctly), there was definitely more complexity than some had anticipated.

Arima Race Club car park was the palpable venue for Solodex II, 2010. The course was a devilish mix of fast sections and left-wheel murdering corners. Everyone had an opinion on this course, and everyone was watching to see who would shine under the 35 degree heat. Twenty seven competitors came out to put their cars and themselves through the paces.
