…..now firstly….this is not the actual name of the event. The event to be honest didn’t have one to being with and well……how yuh could not have a name…..so Tak Back it is. The crews of the TTRC returned to the Jack and Jill Stage for round 2 of the 2018 season, and as we all know….this dry season is….well…..rather wet. Now, JnJ stage is not a rain friendly stage….not even ah drizzle is fren to this stage. So when we turned up in the morning to find the stage wet….we didn’t even know how the rally was to proceed. But….the soil dried, the sun flashed us from time to time and the rest I’ll get to lower down….
A small field and the appearance of the worst kept secret…Harold Morley’s 1973 Porsche 911 RS. Nostalgia with some air cooled sexiness all in one. She was to appear for Rally Trinidad but like all great ladies, she took her time and was a joy to see and hear as Harold rediscovered his youth all Sunday long. Sadly, the day’s only retirement was Craig Sumair, with Simon Rodriguez in the hot seat, when after have an axle snap, the transfer case followed later in the afternoon. But onto the action…..
Stuart Johnson with Wayne Persad took top honours and won Overall, Class and Best Team, sharing the latter with Donald Gopaul and his 783rd co-driver…Syveek Mohammed. Second in overall and 1st in Group A was Matthew Russell with Brian Bhagwandass beside him. They had issues coming down to the end of the day when the mounts for the back diff broke and was held together using a ratchet strap…..don’t ask. 3rd overall and 2nd in Grp N was the Suriname Airways pilot, Radj Persad and the giraffe himself.. Schuravi Mallian. Infact, there was a keen battle between them, Gobin Mahadeo and Chris Ackee (2nd in Grp A) and Kumar Ramdass with Sanjeev Samaroo (3rd Grp N). All three teams finishing within seconds of each other. Peter Morris with Jesu De Gannes
were clean and tidy all day to a 3rd in Grp A.
Over in 2wd, Donald and Syveek had the class in hand, with Harold and Shiva enjoying the RWD action of the 911 all day long.
The Crews have a lengthy rest as the next event is not until July, and I take the time to wish Ryan Pinheiro and his son the best of luck and hopes of a great finish as they tackle Rally Barbados early next month. As for me……
…supercharged V8s come next weekend. Yummy.
..till next time.
