both the S20 and the S40 have "standard" and "short" ratio models. the shorter ratios tend to give you better acceleration at the sacrifice of top speed per gear making the car quicker by keeping it in the powerband more, but this also means youd get slightly less mpg fuel consumption. but its a performance game we're in!
you're better off finding a GTR skyline out of japan than finding one of the short ratio gearboxes on the ground in Trinidad, because if i remember correctly-short ratio models for:
S20 only came mated to last model "ZC" DOHC non-VTEC and the USDM "D16Z6"/JDM "ZC" VTEC engines
S40 only came mated to newer model del sol JDM "ZC" VTEC and USDM "D16Y8" engines
all of the engines listed above are 1.6 liter and SOHC except for the ZC non-VTEC. none are 1.5
