Questions about bearing spin...

Postby starrz » April 26th, 2015, 2:58 pm

Yeah fellas noob question here i know wa happen when you spin a bearing etc etc but i was wondering a few things ...

can the block that spin the bearing be reused again (with new bearings) or would it have to be scrapped? and ah next thing .. if i have a engine that spin a bearing can i just take off everything from the old block and re assemble everything on a new block (once pistons and crank still in a good
condition?)

if i could get some answers soon that would be greatly appreciated

i spun a bearing in my car, so i went and buy a block from a crashed car (mounting points on the block were damaged) and just swap the internal parts into my block, worked like a charm. only thing i buy was new rings and head gasket. hope this helps

bess thing to do is have your mechanic take it apart an see whats damaged rather than assume whats damaged and end up spending money to repair twice..

Your mechanic will determine the cause of the bearing failure when he does a post-mortem on the engine.
Sometimes, all it takes is some new bearings and to polish the crank and you're back in the game, but bear in mind that opening up the bottom end can uncover other issues and you may end up repairing more than you originally intended.

I'm assuming you had engine work done and you're reluctant to go back to bone stock with a bamboo head n' block, right?

Depending on the failure, I'd suggest scrapping down and evaluating what needs to be done. If the crank got scored, I don't trust a lot of machine shops to get that right. I'd swap in a new one. Def consider a new oil pump, even if the old one appears good.

Skimping on a bottom end job can cost you more than double if murphy pays a visit
