If you have the money, get some OEM stuff. Matsushita or Denso Ballasts and some osram or Philips bulbs. And not the cheap Phillips imitation bulbs, the OEM ones. Only problem with that is they don't make HID bulbs for bulb types like H4,H1,H7 ect. , you will only get for D2S D2R ect.
Most other aftermarket kits are the same and made in the same factory just with different branding.

Only use HID's of your headlights come designed with them as standard, or if your car has built in projector lenses. other than that, silvania silver star!

Not sure of the price but I'm sure they sell it. They also would sell the headlight and it might have the ballast still atached to it

The way dos and donts are given in this article is really helpful.
The HID lighting tutorial is worth giving a look for beginners as well as profesionals.
Thanks for posting and hope to see many more in future.

Never made my own, but it can be done. I use the plug and play on all my installs.

WTK:

What controls the colour temperature of an H.I.D? The strip that connect to the bulb?

I'm thinking that the pink strip on this bulb is what controls the colour.

Am I correct?

The strip might indicate what color it is but what determines the color is the different kind of salts that are inside the bulb itself. I read that somewhere already so dont quote me on it, but there is more of one kind of salt and less of another or something light that.

"You get different colour temperatures from the HID lamp by tweaking the mixture in the arc tube. and perhaps the size and shape of the arc"

just read that in a forum

yes it is the stuff inside the bulb that affects the colour not that strip outside

55W HID question

Postby dredman1 » March 31st, 2013, 4:41 pm

I installed a 5000K 35W HID kit on my car as an upgrade from my OEM halogen bulbs some time ago. It was OK, but I still wanted something brighter, so I upgraded to a 55W kit.

Was happy with the 55W as it was much brighter and crisper, and it was the proper 4300K colour. It worked well for a few months, but 2 days ago the bulb on the passenger side blew (confirmed it was the bulb since I switched ballasts left to right and the same passenger bulb did not come on while the driver's side worked).

My question is can I re-use my old HID bulb from my 35W kit on the 55W ballast, or would I have to get a new HID bulb specifically for a 55W kit? I know the 35W and 55W ballasts output different currents, but are the bulbs wattage specific as well (like halogens)?

My 2 cents; There might be a reason they dont supply the 35W bulb with the 55W kit...

My 2 cents, they are the same exact bulb.. At least according to some of the replacement bulbs I have looked into online..

I would swap the bulb.. You have nothing to lose

How do you tell a 35W bulb and a 55W bulb? Neither of them have any writing on it indicating such.

I only said some because I have looked at some and I won't pretend that I have looked at every single brand and replacement bulb out there..

Why not ask the manufacturer? Unless it is some cheap chinese hid kit sold in the bamboo anyway..

Sorry - I was actually trying to ascertain if you in fact found any cases where they weren't the same bulb. If all you found thus far suggest they're the same, that's good enough for me 8-)

It is some generic chinese brand bought off ebay  Sent the seller a message already but he hasn't responded yet.

^^^ when I checked that sticky it wasn't updated since January, so I thought I would've gotten a faster response with a new thread.

I guess the mods can merge this with it now, seeing as it's relevant there.
