Help! cross-threaded bolt - very awkward place. sh!t.

Postby God Bless the Black Top* » October 4th, 2010, 4:19 pm

Hi Guys,

I have a problem - i was taking off my front bumper on the weekend and got stuck by a cross threaded bolt. this is the bolt that holds the bumper on by the front crash bars. it's narrow access; about 4 inches in diameter and 12 inches in the hole to get to the bolt.

it has been cross threaded. i cannot get it out - just spins and spins an adds rage to frustration. i've tried WD40, knocking it with a long screwdriver and hammer. i feel i may need some mechanical assistance.

anyone have a wonder mech or service shop that can handle this? would appreciate the help lots.

had that happen to me twice.
1st time I cut the bumper (it was on the bottom and had 3 other arms bolting onto the crashbar for support)
2nd time I stuck a pry bar between the bumper and the crash bar to add tension to the bolt. Then I just backed it out super slow.

good luck though.
