piping question

Postby adri 2nr » March 6th, 2005, 3:34 am

if your piping is too small can it cause enough restriction if you gear down to cut off the engine?

i dont think thats possible, you might get alot of back pressure if the piping is extremely small, but as long as its not totaly blocked i dont think that could happen.

so the back pressure noise would stop with the bigger pipes right? but wouldn't the car be more noisy? as well would a free flow(bigger size..moving up from 1 3/4 to 2 1/2) show any increase in horsepower ? i also heard gas consumption would increse..i don't so since this is more expelled stuff at this stage? however what do u all think?

do you have a free flow intake ?

what size engine is it on ? You will see some small gain in HP but torque would be affected.

also depends on if ur engine is NA or forced inducted. bigger gains r noticed on a boosted engine.

length and width on the primary has a bigger difference also.

I have a fuel injected 1.5L 16v DOHC engine the only mod is a performance filter. What size piping would you advise to install ?

that problem was sorted out..what happened was the fan was throwin a lot of hot air directly to the air filter an causin it to cut off..
i think the correct size piping for n/a engine (2000) is about 2 1/4 or 2 1/2

low end torque would decrease becasue there's less backpressure, High end would improve.
