New Tyres vs. Used Tyres - Which option is cheaper???

Postby mrreaz » November 3rd, 2019, 9:56 pm

Has anyone had experience or done the math to see which option is cheaper:

Either:
1. Buying brand new lower-priced tyres e.g. Nankang, Nexen, etc. OR
2. Buying used higher quality tyres e.g. Hankook, Dunlop, etc.

I would like to know if it would it be more economical to spend lets say $600 per tyre on a brand new lower-priced tyre or buy two sets of used higher quality tyres for about $225 per tyre ($450 if you change tyres two times within the same period as the brand new tyre will last), assuming the used tyre will last half as long as the new?

Thanks.

i cant say for the expensive tire but i used a brand called keter.

tire was excellent for the first 50 percent of the life, after that it finished super fast. Dunno how to explain it, like the compound was a bit softer or something. didnt check mileage either

you checking the date on the used tires? they tend to deteriorate faster when improperly stored after the 5yr period

What he said, very important info. That date code is the difference between life and death.

Used tyres are a risk.
Go with the best new tyre that you can afford.
