Y12 Transmission Fluid

Postby Chris00007 » July 26th, 2020, 3:50 pm

So I decided to check my CVT transmission oil.

Not seeing any major problems other than having to wait about a second or two when shifting from Drive to Reverse etc.

Does the colour of this CVT fluid look good or is it due for changing? Don't know the last time it was changed but the previous owner said they changed it.

PS. The fluid is very runny, don't know if that's normal

Here's a pic of the dipstick with fluid. It relatively clear and the level reaching above to where the stick makes the double bend.

Use this rule: The previous owner always lies. They needed the car gone, anything will be said to get it gone.
He had any evidence, receipts, a logbook, anything?

Be safer than sorry and just change the transmission oil. And keep a logbook of the work done on your vehicles with the date and a few lines of details of the work.

Yea he had a logbook of all the work done on the car. But there weren't any date on the transmission change.

What I want to know is if this colour looks good or if it needs changing

ive seen tranny oils look good in blown trannies. thats why, i change tranny oils with miles, rather than looks. back in the days, i once didnt change or top up oil for 5 years, cause it looked clear and not fouled. then had to change the tranny. oil change didnt work after.

Transmission fluid especially CVT never hurts to change and more so if smells burnt and discoloured.

change the filter one time, changing fluid and not changing the filter not making any sense. unless its a maintance flush
