What is the purpose of the vacuum bottle under the opening of the air intake and the effects of removing it.

Just after the air filter box there is a j shaped tube leading down into a bottle behind the wheel well and then straight out toward the headlight

for which vehicle, i also wondered what would be the effect on fuel consumption or performance if those where removed on the qg16de n16, there is a J shaped tube just after the mouth of the intake behind the headlight that was removable and i took it off, also under that same place there is another vacuum which kinda hides under the chassis. if those pipes were removed how would it affect the engine's fuel consumption and performance. and one more thing if i took off the rest of the piping before the airbox and replaced it with a straighter piping what would that do? anyone
