Y12 Rider shimmin and hummin sound

Postby Premchand1976 » April 18th, 2014, 7:36 pm

Ok so I went to a popular Alignment Shop in Rambhaju street aranguez and has a suspension check done.

1. Sub frame bushings bad
2. Steering Coupling bad
3. Shock mounts bad

I went and got these and had my mechanic commence repairs today.

First, the coupling was removed and the mechanic thought it was still good. I took it to a f.used dealer and they said it was in excellent condition as well ( thank god they were honest and did not make me pay for a replacement part that did not need replacing )

Second, the sub frame bushings were not bad when he checked them.

Third, The shock mounts were not bad at all.

Yall know who not to go to for a suspension check right....lol

On a more serious note, I notice sometimes when im driving, the steering would start to vibrate/shake a lot and it would feel like the entire front of the car was shimming.

Then at times, I would hear a humming sound like if a bearing is bad or a wheel is not tightened enough

Then today, whilst driving on the wet roads from san juan to caroni it drove normal with no vibration or shim and it started to shim and sound like a tyre was flat. It got louder and louder as we drove ( 60km/h and under )

My mechanic checked the suspension and said my rotors need to be changed, the front cradle rear bushings and the stabilizer link seemed to be defective.

Any ideas if these would solve the problem OR if anything else may be the cause ? I already bought the bushings and the other parts to be changed and wouldn't want to buy parts a second time and find out they don't need changing.

Thanks,

sadist, change the sub frame bushing and use Teflon, change the rear bushing on the cradle and re install...that in itself will take care of the coupling issue.

and change the shock mount... your car will ride 100% better.

I have no problem changing them as I already bough the parts bro. But, if the mechanic checked them for bursting and saw none, should I still do it ?

Remember I said he thoroughly checked,

He removed the long bolts and the short bolts and examined the sub frame bushings. He removed the coupling and checked it and even the foreign used dealer checked it and said it was in excellent condition and he removed the shock head and saw no bursts or cracks on them.

The parts he saw defective were the front Cradle rear bushin, the rotors were worn and too thin to machine and the stabilizer linkage.

The suspension " experts " did a check from beneath the car also BUT, did not remove the wheel OR, dropped the bolts to see the sub frame bushings directly ?

Should I trust their opinion OR the one that did a detailed inspection ?

Thanks

UPDATE 19-04-2014

So we changed the Stabiliser link, the front cradle rear bushing ( which was visible bad ) and the rotors.

Car felt 100% more stable, no clack clack, no knocking, no vibration no humming EXCEPT
the sound like a tyre was flat ( bub bub bub bub bub etc etc ) whilst driving at speeds between 20-60km/h

Hoisted front of car and checked the rim and tyre whilst spinning for dents or " junking " and found none

Removed the tyre and checked the rotor and caliper whilst spinning and saw there was sideways movement from the caliper. Thought it was the caliper pins but it was not ( the guy used a bit of thread seal to tighten the caliper pins whilst threading )

It seems the hub is bad or bent ?

Any ideas ?

I think the caliper needs to be serviced as it seems to be sticking to the rotors and causing the noise. I will update accordingly.

It appears one of the front caliper piston is stuck.

Check both sides of front pads to see if they are wearing evenly.

When next you hear the noise, pull over and quickly touch left / right side of the front rotor...if one side is hotter than the other then that's the stuck caliper piston.

I did this yesterday and yes the right side pin was stuck. The disc pad on the right was almost totally done an the left side was less than 25% used. I changed both and the guy serviced the pin but whilst driving to couva at low speeds 40-80 the steering was vibrating / shaking from left to right and then sometimes it ran smooth at 80-100 and then again I could feel the rough shaking and vibration of the entire front ? Why is it happening off and on at the same speeds ?

Do you have after market rims....if so ensure both sides have the hub centric fitted on either side. If one is missing then that's the problem.

If the noise is still there check the caliper PISTON on the side where the pad wore faster not the caliper pins.

Got a suspension check done yesterday. One shock mount burst, the sub frame bushings need to change ( plenty movement ), stabilizer links to change.

Will do this next week or so and update.

Postby Premchand1976 » May 26th, 2015, 6:35 am

Update for all. I changed subframe and two cradle bushings, caliper kit, and shock mounts and .......tada. .....car running smooth like oil. No shim, clacking or knocking, no vibration whilst accelerating, driving or slowing down. All in all. Polyurethane bushings did the job and the ride is really good. No rough, hard or discomfort.

Anyone with similar problems.....feel free to follow suit.

Now on to injector cleaning and fluids change.
