Sr20/ga15

Postby Wild_e » January 22nd, 2021, 11:04 am

Good day, I have a b12 with a GA15 and I'm thinking about turbocharging it
1) would an sr20 intake manifold bolt onto the ga15 and if it can, would it make sense to do?
2) how much boost can a ga15 handle comfortably?
3) any extra advice?

Any advice and answers are greatly appreciated, thank you

You wouldn't get much more power from doing bolt-on mods to the GA15. It's tuned for economy so even putting a turbo on it, all the work considered (drilling, upgrading fuel system, buying a turbo, intercooler, piping etc) won't be worth it. After doing all that you would probably only get an extra 40 or so HP, then there is the risk of your engine dying prematurely because it just wasn't designed to take boost. The best thing to do, if you want to run a turbo is to buy a SR20DET conversion kit from a scrap yard dealer. That's the cheapest option I'm aware of and your car would be making double the power- and you can always experiment with a bigger turbo / external boost controller to up the boost slightly for even more power if you want. But.... You'd have to run premium gas- that's something most people don't consider when turboing, and gas getting real expensive these days
