The Trinidad & Tobago Automobile (Sports) Association (TTASA) was yesterday awarded $.5 million in compensation for being evicted from a racing track in Wallerfield three years ago.
Justice Nolan Bereaux, presiding in the San Fernando High Court, yesterday agreed to grant a consent order allowing Evolving Technologies and Enterprises Co. Ltd. (eTecK) 21 days to pay TTASA.
In September 20, 2005, TTASA received an eviction notice from eTecK ordering the association to vacate the one mile strip in two weeks.
A University of the West Indies campus site was and industrial site was expected to be constructed on the area.
However, the TTASA which stopped racing cars along the one-mile strip, and filed a lawsuit challenging the eviction notice.
The TTASA contended that millions of dollars had been invested to develop the racing circuit.
Three control towers, bleachers to accommodate 1,000 spectators and a car park, the TTASA said were erected along the racing circuit. When the matter was called, attorneys representing eTecK agreed to $500,000 to the TTASA.
Leave was granted to the TTASA to withdraw the lawsuit.

The Camden air strip is not the property of Briko. Camden is the property of Caroni (1975) Ltd. and so the Gov't.
AFAIK the gates and the concrete car park area that Briko have blocked are also property of Caroni - however since the letter from the Gov't stated that TTASA was bound to "all statutory guidelines" the safety issues raised by Briko would stand.
MANIAC wrote:^ Isnt the Issue raised by Briko about the 1000 ft is that no one (person or racecar) should be within 1000 ft from the FUEL FACILITY.
The Hotel, Beach and Road in St Maarten is much further than the 1000 ft of their Fuelling facility. The only thing there is the Runway starts right by the Road/Beach which is not really different to Piarco .. just that we dont have a Beach ...
