How do u determine a body work is done properly? Is there any special quality inspection or test that is necessary? The same apply, how do u determine a paint shop is done correctly? What procedure is used to get the best results? How many coats of primer, paint and clear coats are applied? Is the paint layer thickness checked? Is there any standard to which is use to guide acceptance?

Finally do these paint shop provide warrantee and guarantee on their work and for how long? The point is, you may vouch that this man can do good work because he did your car last week but the true test to the quality of that paint job is to see how it stands up after 5 or more years.

I would love to hear from the painting gurus and specialist on this one.[/quote]

Painting guru checking in here :D
All the questions above are good ones ,but most people do not want to pay the price of a proper job ,so they end up getting what they pay for. Most of the time straighteners cut corners because they cut prices to get the job. If you want a warranty ,then all the proper procedures must be followed and quality material must be used. I guarantee you it's not cheap. I painted an Rx7 , that was in an accident and fourteen years later ,the owner brought it back for a repaint . The paint was still in excellent condition.
I have painted a Bentley , a Rolls Royce , Range Rovers , Mercedes ,BMWS ,Porsches , and nearly everything in between . I charge my price, if they agree ,I do it, if they find it's expensive , try somewhere else. The thing is ,I rather not to do it than drop the price and have to sacrifice quality.

Agreed..A quality work requires proper material for the job. The durability of the paint job depends on the brand of paint and the proper application. There are a lot of cheap paints on the market and then there are the quality ones.
How do you know what the straightener is using? A good quality paint will hold out for many years and will not fade such as PPG ,Penta etc, once applied properly with the correct mixing ratios and recommended amount of coats. Another problem which I believe affects the durability of the paint job is the buff/cut and polish process if done improperly. It can actually affect the the UV protection, which causes paint to fade. The Body work is a whole different scenario. Metal supposed to be treated with epoxy primers or a good metal primer, Fillers should not be exposed to moisture and there are a whole lot of other processes which needs to be taken into consideration for a quality and durable job. The other issue with this trade is that of mistakes. Its is not a trade such as mechanic where you pull a spanner and you are done. It requires a lot of time and patience, environmental factors such as rain or too hot sun and sometimes bad materials. Colour match problems, fish eyes or silicone holes and a whole lot more which can happen to the best of us at times sometimes not a fault of ours. When something as such happens and the job requires a do over the cost of material and labour falls back on the painter/straightener. This is why these big body shop charges so much money, so in case there a problem and requires a do over of a panel etc there is no loss incurred.

Bump for some recent feedback.

Looking for one in the North preferably (Tacarigua & environs).

Have a car with some dents on doors and some damage to front which occurred while parking.

Much appreciated.

I here to warn people. Do not ever get caught going to a body shop that goes by the name New Millennium. Talks a good game, very convincing, but something seriously wrong with that guy. He is not a company. One man show. Gave him my good vehicle to take to his shop. Next day he called to say the vehicle broke down. I found out that he used my vehicle for his personal errands and was heading home at midnight, saw the temperature gauge rising and did not stop because his wife was on board. Mash up the engine and then without calling me towed my vehicle somewhere in Valencia and began sending false information when asked for the location. The youths in Valencia could not fix the engine and installed wrong parts, as well as did not shave the head. Talk about a mess. I had to have the engine fixed by Qualiserve in the Bamboo. Everything in the vehicle was destroyed. The started, fuse, radiator, everything you could think of was damaged.
