agent007 wrote:That's a tough one for me to say outright Aaron. What I think the price should be would never make sense when compared to vehicles that are subject to the taxes.

Eg. The B17 Sentra currently sold by Massy has a 1.6 engine and is priced at $200k for the grade with "leather" seats.

If the Ioniq EV fully loaded is similarly priced (which is ideally what I expect it to be come 1/1/22) then it renders all vehicles priced within that range useless.

With supposed forex woes affecting these conglomerates, it further means that for them to maximize profits, they might as well stop bringing in any non EV car (or any other vehicle that does not bring in a steady flow of profits) and focus on the Ioniq EV or vehicles that have ideal % profit margins**.

I believe they all collude in one way or the other so this can also affect Corolla, Mazda3, Cerato, Elantra and to some extent Yaris, Accent and Ciaz sales too.

As we would have seen previously, we the consumer will not enjoy the proportionate decrease in price as per 2016 into 2017 concessions on Hybrids. So, whilst I feel cars like the Leaf should sell for $200k fully loaded, this might just be wishful thinking.

In the unlikely event that I am wrong, then consider ourselves fortunate. I am eyeing those Leafs very carefully and just might pull the trigger on one if the price is right.

**remember, vehicles sales have slowed quite a lot. Dealerships may not be able to sell the numbers they used to but they can make it up by virtue of their profit margins per sale. The EV concession removal looks like a strategic attempt helped by the govt to make this happen for the dealers who wish to enjoy said concessions.
The banks I feel in that collusion thing also, everyone along that chain has to make money somehow, from customs to the tint man to the banks, it's an entire automotive Kabal lol and we paying for it, out our arses.

On a lighter note, anyone see the new cx-50?

Aye. Those new MGs are quite the lookers as well. I saw a couple over the last few weeks and must say that the vehicle is very good looking. Very Mazda-esqe.

They look nice - but Trinidad seems to be a tough car market for non Japanese brands to get a foothold. There are many examples of failed marquee. Maybe MG might fear differently - being a mass market Chinese car and parts.

Garbage then and still garbage now. Would much rather an Indian built Kia Seltos with 2 airbags (which is another mediocre vehicle) than anything MG which is just a paper brand on rebadged Chinese vehicles.

Difference today is with the financial backing of the ccp, the marketing budget to catch gullible people across the world would be endless. Furthermore, they won't suffer supply issues like chip shortages etc so they just might be successful by default if there's hardly anything else available to buy.

Where the MG HS's design is concerned, if it looks like a Mazda then at least they know who to turn to for design copies cause Mazda is on a roll now for the past 10 or so years.

when budget read is jan/feb the next year changes take place and then ppl would now start to ship. This has been the way since ev/hybrid exemptions started in late 2016

lol@ all the uneducated bandwagonists cyakin abt how thing should already be on the way for jan and thinking all EV vehicles would be exempted

All of the fiscal measures in 2020's budget were passed in Act #30 of 2020 (An Act to provide for the variation of certain duties and taxes and to introduce provisions of a fiscal nature and for related matters). That Act was passed on December 15th 2020 and assented to 24th December, 2020. That gave a week (Christmas into New Year's none the less) to implement all the changes necessary for Jan 1st 2021.

If they follow a similar time line we know what to expect.

I saw the brand is being sold, imo Hyundai should buy them so they can use the musso and split their own truck off that platform.

SsangYong wasn't a bad brand per say. Their pickup was ahead of its time which had a 6AT transmission, coil springs, rear disc brakes and availsble sunroof. Only other pickup that came close with a sunroof option was the Sportero.

Also IIRC, their selling point was that they used a lot of Mercedes components and technologies in their vehicles. Would glad to see a return.

Younger folks may not remember this but T&T also had LADA products here too. If a dealer brings down the NIVA and the Mahindra Thar, vehicles like the Suzuki Jimny and Jeep Wrangler will get some serious competition.

First gen was hideous though, and Mercedes technology means Mercedes costly parts.

Didn't Life Style bring down the Mahindra? I also remember we had Tata at one point.

Ssangyong has made some nice vehicles in recent time. The new Musso, while not an a benchmark leader in its segment does offer a pretty solid platform and a great value proposition. I think Ssangyong on the whole would do well in T&T since Korean vehicles have been accepted here in a big way.

They get 7 year warranties in Australia and south Korea, not sure where else, but 7 years!!! Even if they bring them here and give us a 5 year warranty, I'm good with that

Same length and width as an aqua (3995mm*1695mm), with a shorter wheelbase than an aqua (2525mm versus 2550mm).

Of course, a higher height and ground clearance, with a 1.0L 3 cyl engine versus the aqua's 1.5L i4.

The prius C couldnt sell so they brought a taller one

Hilarious thing is that it will sell this time most likely.

Excellent synopsis there Proton, the Raize's press release mentioned "SUV" a couple times and when it comes to the 3 cylinder engine, sales reps will prefer to say its a turbo 1.0L with the power of a 1.5L.

So Toyota + SUV + turbo = I just got a cheap brand new Prado for $199k!

Expect your neighbors, friends and family to plaster up on Facebook that they just purchased a brand new Toyota "SUV" for Christmas and some platinum or chairman pyramid scheme 'occultee' to buy one and say, "thou shouldest believe and yee shall be blessed!" #ToyotaSUV crew, #permanent work from home crew, #haterz gonna hate.
