Thats fairly impressive since its a millionaire's vehicle...but its not the first vehicle to do that speed.
In 1987 a guy by the name of gale banks made a twin turbo 1700 hp pontiac gta and made a pass at 277mph. The average speed was 268mph. And that's with the technology they had then. So who more impressive now?

I remember reading up on that some time ago, but you have to understand the basic difference is that Veyron is a Production Car. Out of the Factory it can do what Bugatti says it can do.... you may have to change tires more often, but that's it. It has all the creature comforts (or lack thereof) of a supercar/hypercar.... Cd player, lots of leather, A/C etc. The Banks Car is a hardcore hotrod, beefed up engine, full rollcage etc... it was designed to break a record, but it's not able to handle a race circuit like the Veyron.

I knew someone would bring up that point....but remember that the veyron is a made by the VW company so they can spend millions on R&D. I have a magazine (sports car international) dated back in 2000 displaying the veyron, even back they claimed it would do 252mph and 0-186 mph in 14 sec. but the car wasnt ready for sale bcus at that speed they were getting areo-dynamics problems. So they worked on the car till it was ready and back in 2008 (i think) it was finally realeased to the public to buy.
All this im writing is just show that when you have a company with deep pockets anything is possible. And yes the veyron is an EPIC car and there will be no car (i think) in the near future that would be so great as an engineering masterpiece.
But here is a guy gail banks who tunes cars and trucks and took a standard production car and did 268mph with it, with the technology back then. So by contrast the veyron with all its high tech wizardry is a great car both as a grand tourer and a super car but it was engineered that way from the start.
Just like the evo and subie was made as a rally car adapted for street use and it can do both very well. So as great as the bugatti is and no doubt VW prides itself as making the worlds fastest production car and top speed is the main highlight of the veyron..... but someone did the same thing 20years before and i think that is amazing

the power many cars make now can allow them theoretically to hit 300mph but tires and down force is still a bit of an issue. VW was already quoted as stating that Bugatti Veyron has this issue.

the veyron can take a corner at 120 mph

i highly doubt the pontiac could even take a corner...

With output bumped up from 1,001 horsepower to 1,200 horsepower, torque swelling to 1,106 pound-feet and a revised aerodynamic kit, Raphanel managed runs of 265.9 and 269.8 mph for an average terminal velocity of 267.81 mph and a new world record for a production car.
