I really like how he mounted it straight and not leaning like other rwd installs i have seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUH8S5wv ... re=related
I prefer this mounting position, nothing poking up through the hood or anything..

only small jumbie is reverse, you have to weld a gear onto the rear of the driveshaft and install a BIG truck starter motor to use as the motor to reverse, would be useless going uphill or tight corners probably with a welded diff :P

yeah i saw the quaiffe boxes, and thats a negative on that
if ever anything like this would happen it would be on the ultra cheap and for a track/dex car only as it would really be very impractical for trying to park and get out my garage etc

hmmmm, looks at the feasablity of this setup. best of both worlds collide. could say i drive a bike engine and have a sweet looking datsun at the same time. wat about a well thought out transfer case to get reverse? from the front driveshaft setup to the transfer box on normal will go straight and when engaged will spin rear shaft opp to get reverse. sounds like a plan. on to the drawing board.

IMO a bike engine in anything other than a really light shell is useless......complicating it with unconventional reversing systems is even more trouble.....

bike engines produce too little torque for cars, so to get any sort of response, you need to be high up in the rev range.......it sounds like a cool project, but in reality, it isnt very good for any sort of street driving.........if you want the best of both worlds, get a sport ATV.......not really my cup of tea, but they are absolute monsters on and off the tarmac.

easy reverse solution is used in another setup

using a regular gearbox, take off the bell housing, remove all other gears except reverse and 4th gear from the gearbox, then run a short drive shaft from the output sprocket to the input shaft on the gearbox (4th gear 1:1 ratio output for regular driving..) and then use the clutch, and put it in reverse and you'll actually have 6 gears in reverse.. here is a photo of the setup... extremely easy to do..

@cacasplat, FYI the stock hayabusa engine makes more HP and torque than any engine offered in any 1200 datsun even built from the factory ;)

Well according to wikipedia a 1300cc hayabusa max power is 162.6 bhp and 99.6 lb/ft of torque...which is way more than the 69hp and 70 lb/ft from an A12 engine. Plus there are turbo kits for the hayabusa engine which can help it make more than 250hp...which is more than enough power for a light car like a 1200
