I'm just asking if you have ever experienced it.

The question is based on the observation that the wax on my vehicle (it isn't ceramic coated) appears to wear out in the area just behind the front wheel well, curving down the side of the vehicle.
Was wondering if the same happens on ceramic coated vehicles

Also it's possible that it didn't fail and the sand is bonded to it.

That is also a possibility.

there is no sign of water beading when the dirt is washed off but it is visible (the beading effect) on all other panels on the vehicle

I will take a picture next time. :)

No problem. Hoping that it's just stuff on top of the coating. What product is the coating? Wanna do some research.

Ohhh ok. In that case the wax might be coming off. It's like a coating of grease. So the salt could remove it, or whatever else is in the water. I believe after the intitial wax you could just spray the detailer on top and that helps maintain it. Have you ever tried that?

Using Jet Renu And Finish Renu products, meguiars wax though. Going to start learning CSI's brand soon. Actually thinking about getting an old bonnet to treat like sh*t so I can practice using Ceramx on it. Did this panamera last week.

Currently working on this x5. Years of incorrect washing and nothing to protect the paint. Polished the front to test and it removed about 60% of the wash marks. I like to shoot for at least 70% - 80% removal so I'll mow it down with compound then polish it. Don't think a good soap was used either as the paint looks ( dry. ) Interior is in good shape so I did minimal cleaning and dressed it to protect leather. Charged $300.00 as I'm building clientele and my reputation. Results later today

My dad is the authorized distributor for finish Renu and jet Renu. This removes anything that's 1000 grit and higher. It costs 180 per quart. I used a DA on the X5. But it works with rotary as well. Wipes of easy but dusts at high speed. So I wipe the wash the vehicle afterwards.

It works really well. Just have to be patient. It doesn't have fillers or anything. So ur just cutting. Takes more time on a Da. Trying to organize an old bonnet so I can practice using a rotary.

Clay removes the stuff bonded on top of the clear coat. Put your hand in a plastic bag and gently rub the paint. If it's feeling really rough you should clay the vehicle. What happens otherwise is you remove a little more clear coat than necessary and you clog the pad with things that can introduce scratches to the vehicle ( dried contaminants, dried compound, clear coat.) . Also when the pad gets clogged it will not cut like it should which slows you down. It Isn't needed Everytime but if the paint is rough after you wash it, claying will make life easier.
What worked for me was buffing from the good areas to the worst. Claying is great but not always needed. Unless it's high lvl work where there is no room for error.

Tips from a detailer. ( May not be daily. )

Postby FineToothDetailing » August 17th, 2021, 10:24 pm

Hey guys. Offering tips here that may or may not benefit you.

Tip. Soaps and polishing.

You ideally want 2 soaps. A soap with wax and a soap without wax.

Reason being is that wax soaps are more designed for maintenance, they make the car look polished when you dry them. When attempting to polish a vehicle however a problem arises ( one that you more than likely have experience with if you polished a car but you didn't know it was happening ) You start polishing and it takes awhile for you to see a difference in the paint... And ontop of that the polish is a bit difficult to remove. The reason is because the polish HAS to cut through the wax from the soap before it actually touches the clear coat and now all that wax is in your pad affecting the polish. You literally put a barrier on the vehicle that you now have to remove to get the job done. Costing you time.

That is the reason it makes sense to have a soap without wax if you plan to polish the vehicle. ( Squeezy works but don't make it too soapy, think clean paint not dry paint. If your fingers are gliding over each other in the soap water you have enough.

Tyre dressing! There are 2 types, silicone based and water based. The silicon based is the oily greasy one and the water based makes the tyre look new ( not really shiny just black. ) Personally I prefer the water based one because cleaning silicone based dressings are a nightmare! Also it traps dirt and muck making it look bad over time. Also they can cause accidents on wet roads if the user doesn't change tyres at the right time ( friend woke up to a car skating into his wall. )

If you need to clean it off use a stiff brush and blue soap. I don't know what they put in blue soap but it cuts through the dressing easier than any degreaser I used ( never used pure degreaser though. )

Some people like the glossy look of the silicone based dressing and there is no problem with that. But ideally water based dressing is better for the tyre. It doesn't look as shiny but there is no perfect product.

That's water based dressing on the tyre. Not glossy just a new tyre look. Also the tyre NEEDS to be completely dry wen applying.

Matte paint!!!! To make it clear. You should have dedicated soap for matte paint!!!! However if u have no choice. Use less soap than usual, work panel by panel and rinse the panel immediately! If the soap stays you will get lines or an uneven finish. This is not to be done continuously. If you own a matte vehicle or have clients with matte vehicles it would make life better to get matte products. I have to get as I have my first matte client. He is going to paint it over so I have some time. Researching products. If u guys know of any good products let me know.
