NEED ADVICE. Ownership of a Mercedes Benz

Postby h3llh3x » August 2nd, 2020, 10:06 pm

Good Day,

I've been wanting a Mercedes for quite some time and my tribulations have finally paid off. I've been looking at the C220d foreign used from the UK (14896 KM) , but before I make this commitment, I'll like to hear from the community (owners of Mercedes) of their reliability, maintenance and any other information that you deem fit to advise.

Thank you in advance.

If it ain't an AMG, don't bother importing one.

I would stay away from diesel. You’re just going to run into the problems as long as we have low quality high sulphur diesel but the experts can chime in.

Good advice so far .... get the amg kit, stay away from the diesel esp if it's being imported. And budget for maintenance. This ain't no B14 you're buying.

State of the art, precision engineering that needs to be taken care off. Lots of electronics too which can be problematic at this. But the thrill and comfort of driving one is def worth it.

Besides that, the gas engines e.g. C180 has a 1.6 turbo which is very fuel efficient but you got to use premium and motor vehicle taxes will be at minimum. Most parts are easily available to source locally or online.

If you have a mosquito problem then that c220d will come in handy to smoke out your property in a timing.

I would agree with all so far, stay away from diesel and make sure you on top of maintenance. I can't speak about the newer models I have a C320 W203 doing 330,xxx kms and no problems so far, only major issue I had was with the ABS module, swapped it and working fine. My aunt has a W204 which never gave her any problems and my cousin has a PDA series E250 with again no issues.

Just take care of it, and it won't let you down, if you do a lot of highway driving the comfort makes up for the price of ownership, when I make POS to south in any other car, I feel tired. Having said that if you want an alternative, the Toyota Camry is an excellent car.
