6" Zebras please explain

Postby dlittlelion » August 12th, 2011, 12:32 pm

Experts some input please. I heard a car with 4 6" zebras and 4 bullets. The clarity was exceptional, loud and clear. Hotel California was the best I ever heard it. These speakers cost between $90 and $115 and it sounded just as good as the expensive brands.

Are these speakers being over looked?

Just as 3stagevtec said. Just proof of a little rule of thumb, 80% install, 20% equipment. Install lower priced, lower quality equipment properly and use them for the application they were intended for and tune properly, etc and you get good results. However, install highly priced, high quality equipment improperly or use "expensive" equipment in the wrong application and, well, don't complain when it doesn't sound great.

Agreed, but how hard is it to install 4 6" speakers? what are the factors to consider?

Because most of the Eminence/18 sawngz/ Caire you hear is just a ghetto install,,, somebody told them it's the loudest so they think it's the Holy Grail and don't bother bout other factors....

Also, take into consideration the frequency range the drivers are designed to reproduce, so that crossover points can be chosen accordingly in relation to the frequency range of the driver.

Also keep in mind "good sound" and "sound quality" can be two entirely different things.

These "cheaper" brands are not that bad, as said above 80% install & 20% equipment. You ever notice how the expensive brands give you full documentation on how to install & tune? Im sure if these high end brands end up in a ghetto installer hands it will sound like crap. I guess its poor marketing by the "cheap" brands manufactures.
