Free Air test
Sub 1 No Audible noise
Sub 2 No Audible noise
Wired Both back in series No noise from subs. :D

In Box Test
Sub 1 Noise present :x
Sub 2 Noise Present :x
Wired both back in series noise is present.

free air no scratching noise is heard, but when they are placed inside the box the noise can be heard. :?:

it seems one sub is making the scratching noise slightly louder than other when I tested them individually in the boxes.

Interesting.

Check each speaker and confirm that the surround is fastened firmly to the speaker's basket and cone. Check the spider as well. And the dust cover. You could use a signal generator (or a CD with tones) to drive the speakers with a continuous signal - vary the frequency until the "noise" is at a maximum level. This should make it a bit easier to find the cause of the noise.

BTW - I was hearing strange noises from my subs today as well. Guess what the cause was? A bit of crazy glue has fixed the problem for now, but it looks like I might have to get a new pair - just in time for Christmas :-)

Perhaps I was playing The Chemical Brothers' "Under The Influence" a little too high...

looks like its not the subs that giving problems. as i tried a different sub and noise was present. so it must be a problem with amp which i was hoping it wouldn't be. did re-check grounds after from the amp to the car chassis took the ground of re-sanded the area and re-attached the it. the noise seems to have stopped, i'm not a 100% sure its stopped will continue to test and see if it comes back. until then i'm fearing for the worst, the amp would need to get repaired.

Or could be your box have faulty sealing.

Check if the box leaking or if the port could move etc
