Audio modification and Swift's steering wheel controls...

Postby Humes » October 16th, 2013, 3:28 am

I'm thinking of modifying the audio in a Swift (2008) and I have a question:

Will the steering wheel audio controls easily retain utility if I change the stereo? Or is it heavily dependent on the modification?

Depends on the modifications. If you upgrading the head unit then you may have to get an adapter for the steering control to interact with it. I know some pioneers have a module that allows the controls to work with the deck. Installed one in a toyota hilux a while now.

there are two units you can purscase that allow you to retain the steering wheel controls they are the axxis as mentioned above and the metra kit... do a simple google search to learn more.

another alternative is to get the pioneer ( assuming it a pioneer deck youre installing) steering wheel control...

the pioneer swc is not a replacement for the swift control as its just a remote that u stick onto the steering wheel. The reason i think op asked is that the controls are already there

Yes you can retain original control of your steering wheel . There are many aftermarkets decks manuf such as jvc, kenwood, clarion and yes of course pioneer that offer a port for external remote control, you just have to do your research when purchasing the control
The manufacturers that sell are axxis and also PAC swc . Do a search on any audio website and either of these will pop up .

I have done 2012 and 2013 toyota vehicles when local toyota tech said it could not be done .

Thanks a lot for the info. I've looked up the parts listed here and it seems like everything should be in order when I'm ready.

Okay, so I looking at this stereo: Pioneer FH-X700BT

And this for the steering wheel: Metra Axxess ASWC-1 Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface

On the right track? Also, will it fit seamlessly into the Swift dash?

It looks kinda conspicuous, and that bothers me.

REO consultants does the DVD decks for lifestyle. They have the adapters you'd need. I'm not sure of the price though.

Buy a pioneer double din dvd deck na boi.

I had the steering wheel configuration done by streetwise in couva, on a Nissan sylphy last year. You could check them, they use the pak steering wheel module

Nah, no video player in my car...I doh want to go down that rabbit hole atall atall.

Kinda like the idea of a touchscreen deck, though. Might check out one of those if it eh too expensive.

Who sells either of the SWC interfaces locally - between POS and Central? Might need it as early as this weekend.

There's a guy on tuner who sells the axcess. It's probably the best one out there.

Do a search for it.

Dj_Bee - thanks. I only found Toiz with Noiz - but they're from Debe, which is way south for me. I couldn't find any other options when I searched for "steering wheel"...

Any other ideas?

I'm thinking of putting an alpine 148bt with the power pack and metra access universal in mine. Did you notice a big difference in SQ over stock?

Yes, but I'm no audiophile. It sounds better because I have a lot more control over how I want it to sound. I didn't change speakers.

Hey can anyone advise on whether the Metra Axxess ASWC-1 & this Pioneer FHX-720BT would be compatible with a 2009 Mazda Axela ? From everything I read they seem compatible.. jus want a 2nd opinion.

Hi all. My 2014 swift sport steering controls are malfunctioning. The volume up changes the radio band for example.

What can be done to remedy this?

What’s the condition of the buttons??… a healthy dose of contact cleaner could solve the issue, careful to get too much on the steering wheel itself

Factory radio or aftermarket with the steering control interface?

it may also be the clock spring / spiral cable thats going bad.

some steering wheels use the same wire for different purposes. -

its called multi plexing ....so the same wire may carry different signals for different devices / functions.

get the car scanned first and have the tech check the spiral cable

another way you can also check it home yourself is jack up both front wheels off the ground - support the car with jack stands .

start the car and turn the radio on ..and go from full lock to full lock on the steering wheel while toggling the various steering wheel controls....see if anything changes if they function normally or if they function any worse.

Also, don't let carwash people spray Armor All on your steering wheel....
