80 prs with line driver (6xs)

Postby stark_007 » January 28th, 2019, 8:15 am

I would like to know if adding an audio control line driver(6xs) would put less strain on my amplifier( turning up less gain therefore keeping the amplifier cool while resulting in a louder tone through mid speakers). The 80 prs has 5 vrms volt outputs and the audio control has a maximum output of 9.5 vrms peak.

That is not how an amplifier gain works. It is an input level matching system, if you level match properly with 5vrms or 9.5v rms you would not get a difference

Learn what gain knobs are used for. That's all.

There will be no difference once you set your gains properly, the gain knob isn't a volume knob

Many installers out there will disagree and make you add more equipment instead of knowing how each piece of equipment really works and matching them properly in the system design.

Unless you are running multiple amps off of each set of outputs from your 80prs there is no need for any line driver to the amps. Proper line level matching is all that is needed. If however the amplifier is incorrectly sized for the speakers being driven or the amp is running at max load or even overloaded the amp should not run uneccesarily hot. Low system voltage will also cause amps to run hot.
