I'm my case I was thinking 8"sub (or if I can find smaller) in a sealed box... Or one of those underseat powered subwoofer.

Does anyone sell subwoofers smaller than 8"

I'll concur those under seat subs are underwhelming.
Triple r have 6.5 DD subs, and gooaul's/Montrose electronics have the massive 6.5 subs. I think they have audiopipe also but they're kind of deep

The problem with 6.5" subs I find is that they still need a large enclosure.Find an 8 or 10 that has smaller sealed enclosure requirements and you gt.I would recommend the earthquake sws series. There is an 8 inch in the series.
But sound deadening has very noticeable changes to your sound. Some days I don't even use my sub.My JL C2s handle pretty nicely. My doors aren't as sound deadened as they should be, because of some structural issues in the door which I didn't want to remove.I am certain that done properly,I wouldn't need a sub at all.

Give us an estimated budget. There are plenty of options to go with depending.

what kinda van - guessing its a 4dr pickup ?

door speakers that capable of playing effectively down to 50 or even higher 80hz will cover majority of d 20hz-20khz spectrum, even though subs play like 1% it still makes alot of impact but speakers can get u by with most everyday music, if u must have that bass impact with limited space then shallow sub behind back seat rest or small box with a 6.5 or 8 on d floor or on seat ...

I saw this install from a Tuner, he did a sealed enclosure in the middle on top of the driveshaft tunnel. I think it was a JL 8w3 that was used and it was plenty sound for that cabin. I think in that model Navara there isn't alot of space behind the back seat. Wasn't that noticeable and alot easier on the eyes than one of those center enclosures that I don't get the point of.

Budget is around 1100, which is about the price for one of those under seat powered units iirc (the cheaper ones anyway).

Wondering if better sound can be had for equal or less than its cost.

I also have that 150 SPL challenge in mind where the total cost of amp and driver cannot exceed 150USD; there is also the challenge where the sub alone cannot exceed 150USD.

If over 140db is possible when you are going after SPL, is it possible to get a good listening experience with a similar budget when you are not?

This is the challenge i'm referring to
https://12voltmag.com/community/2020-150-spl-challenge/

How low can the budget go for decent bass?

Stay clear from those under seat subs. I don't think you'll be satisfied with your purchase. In my opinion you're better off doing a set of component speakers with proper sound deadening. Put aside a $300-400 for deadning and use the rest on speakers. It's a good start.
Or if you willing to buy used and maybe spend a little more, you can look for a reputable 300 watt amp and get the Audiopipe 6.5 (don't let the name fool you it performs) and an enclosure. That's if you want a 6.5 sub.

Check out this vid. Dinas (Do I need a subwoofer)

The audiopipe 6.5 is a good sub, that quad stack motor assembly is a problem to fit in tight spaces though. The DD 506 is a great little sub.

I digging this. Again alot easier on the eyes than the big center console enclosures that them fellas doing now. But what I heard was more or less a cube shaped sealed box in between the seat and center console with the sub upfiring. I always wanted to try those Loudforce subs but never got the chance.

Mounting Depth is 4.75", I don't have too much experience with behind the seat van enclosures so how this looking?

I do t have much experience with behind van seats either. 4.75 for sub, if using 3/4 MDF that 1.5 for front and back of enclosure, if the sub has venting through the motor add another 1" , so 7.25 inches. And the you have to cater for movement of the surround. See how easy that all adds up.

The 506 is 4.5" and another popular choice for that application is the Arc Audio 8 which is also 4.75" so it may be possible.

Could just be a mental thing, that audiopipe quad stack looks a lot beefier/ taller than other comparable sized subs

JL audioTW1 is the perfect sub for behind the rear seat of pickups. Super simple install.
The TW3 can get louder and handle more power but requires a little more skill with regards to countersinking the sub into the baffle.

His budget didn't allow for it but imo the JL TWs are the standard for a shallow sub. Can't be beat

If budget is an issue the soundstream 13" flat sub sounds good for the price

That's a really slim sub!
