NZE Velocity joints!

Postby mitsu » April 10th, 2009, 11:13 pm

Recently, my NZE joints started knocking; I checked Toyota but was informed that they don't carry them in stock.
I purchased a substitute pair about a month ago, installed and was working fine until today, when the right side literally fell apart.
Is anyone familiar with the part number for the velocity joints or where can I purchase OEM?
Also, if you changed to a substitute pair, where did your purchase them?

What engine size is your car? The joints are different for the 1.5, 1.6 and 1.8.
They are available in OE brand at most parts retail outlet. Walk with the old one if you are not sure. My experience with the NZE is that it is a very difficult joint to remove from the shaft. First time I am hearing of one falling apart. These are beaten with sledge and just won't come out except with cutting. I purchase mine at Juteram,s in Arima and also at Part's Solution in Princes Town. But are also available at most retail parts outlet.

Its a 1.5 JDM fielder.

Thanks for the info,I'm thinking that the parts store gave me the wrong CV joints.

I no longer have the orginal joints...

My next option, is to check back toyota to see if I can order OEM's..

I think there is a special too that you are supposed to use to remove the joint. I'm not to sure about the other substitute brands but the GLO brand works really good. I think its made in Italy.

For the 1.5 the joint in OE # is 2029. GLO have not supply a joint for the NZE model to date. OEM by toyota comes complete meaning both inner and outer axle together with the shaft. If you want original try foreign used, its about $500 for one side. I believe however, that it was not the correct joint you install. Try the OE brand 2029 and use synthetic grease and the metal hose clip to tighten the axle booth. By the way turbonator, there is a tool to remove the old joint. I happen to have one, but it do not work for the NZE.

Update: The mechanic took out the axel, the circlip that locks the CV joint was slack hence the CV joint came out.
He refitted it,re greased and installed it back on the car.

Car is working fine now.

Based on this, its either:

1.the substitue CV joint (also came with the circlip) is a waste of time.

2. The mechanic did an impoper install of the CV.

Thanks for the assistance praise and yes TTTL selling the entire axel for $14,000.... I kid you not.

Glad to know you got through. I do not like to place blame on anyone, as we are all human, and can make mistakes even the best of us. My take however is that the joint was not installed throughly beyound the clip so that it can be lock. These joints are almost impossible to fall out even with hammering as the clip is so thick and it just ride up the shaft and lock up.

just to clear things up a bit no joint should really be hard to come off "should" the problem is that when removing the joint it should be held at a proper angle and knocked off in one shot . If not go look for a chop saw. BTW there is a tool to remove the joint without knocking or removing the whole axle, I'll have it for sale in a bit

Changed the CV joing today. When hammered, the joint disassembles but the inner part remains on the shaft (due to the snap ring in the groove). This was removed by cutting. If you need to ever change just the boot, remove the entire shaft and replace from the inner end and not the outer. Btw, this was for the left side.
