hope for a reply from an old thread :)

sometimes it's the coupling causing that, and sometimes it's the roller bearing in the steering column itself....shake it up and listen out for if the noise is coming from inside the steering column or closer to the base of the firewall to know which one to replace...

if it's the roller you'll need to look for a new steering column and I really don't know which is compatible if the AE80 one if unavailable

^^^ yeh I studying that as u say it...methinx once it has the two couplings (one for rack, the other for the tilt...if your AE80 has the adjustable steering height option...u only need the column with one coupling if your car doesn't have the height adjustment) it should work inno....spline for the steering wheel is the same

my ee80 doesn't have the adjustable steering, an with respect to the location of the noise as u explained, I'll like to believe that its the bearing....i know of 2 places i can get the column, but is it easy to change an would i have to change the ignition key with it or its separate?

methinx all those other parts is just to bolt out, just be mindful of the order and placement when u replacing the steering column

what u can do is take down your column covers and assess what kind of work you'll have to do to change it.
