C.V joints

Postby smokey1275 » March 29th, 2009, 9:39 am

So i'm driving along the lovely roads of trinidad one night and all of a sudden i hit a lil sink in the road that could have been nothing more than 3 inches deep and not a pothole but lil a dip in the asphalt . The tire flexed and i began to have a vibration . I went the next day and balanced the wheels andone wheel was bent from it and i don't think the balancing helped . The shock had burst or given up rather . the alignment shop says all the wheel bearings and bushes and joints are ok . I do not get a knock when locking corners that indicate that a c.v. is going. However in a straight line at low speeds or when decelarating i hear a wobbling sound , like a woob woob wooob woob sound until i come to a halt. Do you suspect that the out c.v. could be bad ? or could it be the belt in the tire is bent ?

Wheel bearing. The sound you described indiccates the bearing going. Soon you will be hearing that sound while driving normally. As for the bent wheel, jack up the car and ensure that you wheel nuts are tightened and that is no play on the hub. I suggest removing the wheel and checking that the nut on the cv joint is properly fastened and that it is not slipping. Also check your ball joints. Prevention is better (and cheaper) thab cure. If the car is not driving as it should please do not ignore and thoroughly check it out.

Rotate your tyres, if the noise changes location then it is the tyre, if not it is the wheel bearing.
