if u insist on keeping the 5A-Fe engine as opposed to ugrading to 7A, 20 valve or 3S, you could get maybe 30HP more without interfering too much with the internals (head, block etc.) by:
upgrading to wider angle camshafts with titanium valves and springs
upgrading fuel pump & fuel regulator
increasing injector cc size
getting bigger diameter throttle body or installing a 4-throttle intake system
installing piggyback ECU
gearbox with heavy duty pressure plate, lightened flywheel, copper clutch
short shifter
installing a proper ground kit
installing extractors & increasing exhaust to 1.75 or 2" diameter with a free flow barrel and performance catalytic converter
installing coilovers, sway bars, poly bushings, strut tower braces, tougher (less flexible) engine mounts
bigger brakes in front and disc brakes in rear
lowering the vehicle by 1.5" - 2"
NOT going more than 15" rims.....no heavy ass rims either.......

alternatively u can turbo or supercharge and get maybe 5 or 6 pounds of boost on the engine with stock internals.....but that costly as well......u gotta get the turbo or supercharger, piping, intercooler, oil cooler, turbo manifold, wastegate, blow-off valve, gauges to monitor your engine parameters etc..........

just to name a few things.........and still u may come out cheaper buying a 7A, 20 valve or 3S complete with gearbox or even transmission....

but i can relate because i had a 5A-FE and and i did most if not all of the mods i listed above, but ultimately if all i wanted was more power and speed i would have saved myself a lot of time, money and downtime just stuffing in any one of the engines i named above.......i didnt mind all the piece by piece work because i enjoy fixing and modifying my car.......

hey seems im in the right forum, all new to it also, i upgraded my brakes both front and back,
guy i bought it from told me it came off a corolla gt, the model that comes with the 20v 6fwd gearbox, rotors and callipers are bigger than the original, my brakes have come really far in performance from how it was(small rotor in front and drums at the back), how ever i am ready to continue on with the upgrade, i believe my booster and master cylinder was designed for drum type, so wanna know what i should go with, was thinking about the booster and master cylinder that goes along with the 3s, would it work? also idk if i need to change my distribution block, have no education on the block part, if i need to swap, what do i need to swap with from which car? any suggestions and advice is greatly appreciated. will talk about engine power after i decided to start with my brakes FIRST!!

did you get the step up unit checked?

Gents...
I have a AE100 L Touring with a 5AFE and having similar issues.
-After starting engine (especially when cool) I have to keep the idle up by using the gas pedal. When engine reaches warmer temp it idles ok (800rpm).
-When AC turns ON, the idle drops to around 500rpm.

Can anyone tell me where the step up unit located on the engine and what it looks like? A picture of it would be ideal so i'll know what to look for when I go to buy one.

Under the throttle body you'll see it with coolant lines on it and a harness, 2 wire I think.

Good night I'm looking for some assistance. 20v blacktop in a grey touring wagon. My exhaust smells real high of (apparently) unburned fuel. Miner upgrades done, k&n filter, larger extractors and 2.5mm exhaust, in plenum v stacks and adjustable fpr (Tomei). New o2 senor (denso). Also this only occurs when the engine is warm, not when my temp gauge is less than half/medium. Can anyone help or give me the number if a great Toyota mechanic. Points to note it is horrible on gas, full tank only gives me 245km

This sensor is part mechanical and sometimes stick best thing to do buy a foreign used throttle body and change it

Hi, I'm the owner of a 1994 AE101 ATM, the engine control unit for my car is damaged, as a capacitor leaked on the circuit board.
Is there anyone who can recommend where i can get a replacement for this part?
I have tried the bamboo, online and many other places and haven't been able to locate it.
its a 4AFE, 1.6 engine, the ECU is colour coded orange, Model # 89661-12800, 3 jacks (all grey) are the input, and the VN #AE101-0177285.

Fellas,

getting a heavy vibration at times in my rolla..its a ltouring with a 5afe engine.

i recently took out the engine to change the crankshaft seal and water pump as both were leaking. everything was reinstalled smoothly but i had one issue

the engine mount at the back of the transmission that secures to the cross member, there was 1 bolt holding it to the transmission before. i noticed 2 holes so i got a spare bolt from another 5a engine and added it.

now the mount is good with no visible cracks in the rubber but i am getting a heavy vibration at idle (600- 800 rpm)

the vibration wasnt there as much before i took out the engine. all other mounts are good; the 2 sides and the front. i jacked the car below each mount to see if the vibration would decrease but it remained the same.

any other ideas to try??

Hey people, there are quite a few Toyota car groups

Toyota Nation TT (TNTT)
Trinidad and Tobago Toyota Association (TTTA)
Corolla Crew TT (CCTT)

All groups are cool, each with similar goals and structures. They all offer advice, have whatsapp/facebook groups, have admins, plan meetings at various locations, organise and attend car shows/events and have official stickers.
